Friendly help about true MPG and pricing please!
Hi all, I am new to the forum.
I am about to pull the trigger on an 09 370Z auto for 27500+tax and title with MSRP of 32600. Is this a good deal considering the 2010s are coming out soon? or can I do better?
Also, what is the 'true' (possibly hand calculated) MPG do you guys get (under normal driving)? I know the Nissan claims 18 city and 26 Highway.
Thanks for the help!

There are sooo many variables to consider mpg and if your worrying about that stay away from a performance based car. With all the info at your fingertips invoice of vehicle
any given incentives etc etc you can make an informed decision. it makes more sense to go with the newer model year but they will be less reluctant to give leeway on it since there paying $ on their current floor plan.

I get a pretty solid 19.5 in the city, 23-24 highway but I do 80-85 highway on my 03 touring auto. 18 mpg city is only if I am really raping it, I drive very spirited and generally have no problem staying over 19.
Price depends on package which you didn't specify.

aaronz8: I do know how to drive a stick, but i commute 45min in rush hour daily both ways. So i think an auto may be a tad on the better side
duro78: I am also well aware of the msrp, invoice, and hold backs of the vehicle. But the dealerships WOULD not sell the Z near invoice (since it just came out) and it has zero rebates whatsoever. But fortunately, the 2010 model is coming soon so they need to move the 09 ones. That is why I asked what is the price you guys are paying or off of msrp given if you bought the 09 recently.
About the MPG, I know it all depends on how heavy the right foot is, but i just like to know the real life numbers with average driving.

If you're even remotely concerned about gas mileage, then I'd encourge you to walk away right now. It's a sports car, most people drive them hard, that by definition means you'll get low gas mileages (19 city, 27 hwy for me).
It's the old "you have to pay to play" philosophy. If you're concerned about the price of gas, maintenance cost, tire wear, high insurance, etc. - this is not the car for you. Start modding the Z and you'll definitely experience sticker-shock.

I got the 09 370Z auto Touring MSRP was $41K (They wanted $43K), got it down to $37K, invoice is around $38K so i'd say you're getting a good deal. As for mpg, i got 41.1 mpg going 55.8 mph on the highway(have pic to prove it). It's all about how you drive man. If you drive like a granny especially since you're going to have to break the car in then you'll get great gas mileage for a sports car. I got the car last friday, didnt have to fill up till wednesday.

According to CR, the true estimated MPG for our Zs are: 17, city driving; 24, highway. Slightly below what Nissan OR the EPA claim. Actually, what "duro78" says is true; the many variables makes it hard to pinpoint accurately.

I conduct a real-world gas mileage survey that includes questions on driving conditions and driving style. Results for the Z so far here:
Real-world Nissan 350Z / 370Z gas mileage
Not many for the 370Z so far, I'm afraid.
You can also see how other cars compare.

eeked out 30.3 when i drive at 60-65 on my 06. But if you combine all driving 21-22. I think the Z is pretty economical, so in other words.... do eeet! *whispers* but get a stick

have had mine for 3 weeks and I am getting around 10 litres / 100km which is about 23 - 24 MPG. I do a commute of 88km (55miles) each way about half freeway and half city.
Dont talk to me about pricing. You guys in the USA dont know how good you have it. Geez, its around $73k for the sports +touring package here and the aussie dollar is very close to the US dollar (about 92 US cents for 1 $ aussie) :-(

My 06 AT Touring Coupe is averaging 19 (combined) for the history of the car. Right now I have 18.5K miles on it after 3.5 years. Most of my driving is short trips to the store and maybe two or three times a year I make a long distance trip (400+ miles one way). Like everyone else has said, if the cost of gas is an issue you may want to consider getting a Zaltima.
