Default Test drove a 370Z wtf is up with the clutch.

Don't know if it is with the new models or all 370's but I went to the dealership today for a test drive and the clutch has no feel. I was expecting some resistance but as soon as I stepped on it I literally felt like I was pushing my foot against nothing. What a huge turn off, of course someone found a way to fix it.

I don't understand why they would take away part of the driving feel, too many sissies with weak legs complaining about the 350z clutch?

New, used? My Nismo's clutch is great. A lot better than the 350!

With how soft the clutch is and how little resistance it gives, it makes it difficult to gauge the engagement point feel and get smooth shifting. No offense but if you think the the clutch is fine after one test drive, I imagine your shifting to be herky jerky.

Until I can actually test drive one with the spring fix the owners came up with, no upgrade for me.

Brand new model.

But according the 370 forum, this issue applies to all 370's.

I'm sure you'll get use to it... but Yea I feel you. Not a fan at all... IMO get an auto and keep my M6 alone.

I'm sure Nissan is looking at this a warranty / longevity thing. The smoother you are (general public) the longer and less failure on the drivetrain. It helps improve the new and old drivers shift for them.

Side note.. LOVE the new wheels....

nope my shifting is damn near perfect imo. not jerky at all? the one I test drove was an 09. felt the same as my 08. the rev matching was kinda weird though but the engagement and everything else felt the same.

The 370z and G37 clutch feel is ****; prime reason why it's one of the things that a lot of owners race to fix. It's due to the overall clutch design, in particular a small helper spring. The helper spring takes an already awkward clutch and makes it a disaster. There is a quasi-fix that a couple guys figured out, which involves swapping the spring out with one that has a lower spring rate to bring back some of the natural clutch feel. Even with the helper spring swap, it's still not great.

I was wondering if it was just me since I'm used to my ACT clutch, that's why I looked it up and yep, a lot of owners did that spring swap or just left the spring out altogether.

Maybe they have similar transmission design. I've driven 04 and my current 06 they both had similar feel, never a HR. When I test drove the 370 it had no feel whatsoever.

I test drove one over the weekend for the Lolz. The clutch was soft.
I am used to the "jerky" engagement my 05 De. Its felt rather alien and "apple" like to me.

I took another test drive again and they just gave me the keys and let me go on my own, when I was quick shifting the clutch pedal was getting stuck to the floor. Dealership said it was because it was sitting on the lot for a while. I love the hugely upgraded interior and the lightness of the handling, almost like a s2000. That rear end however is even fatter than the 350 rear end and that damn clutch issue sucks.

Yeah, the spring swap isn't really much of a fix, unfortunately. Leaving the spring completely can introduce a whole other problem, so it's not a good idea.

The only really fix for the problem is the RJM clutch pedal assembly.
