.5 sec isn't much quicker, but that isn't my argument! You said they aren't in the same category, sure not the case but they are both 2 door coupes with RWD. To say that buyers won't look at both is flat out stupid, when a blind man can see that the argument I made stating that the twins+10k will be a much better performance car than the base Z.

If we don't care about warranties, a 2nd gen Miata + $25k will run circles around both. I have one in my shop. It set fast lap of the day at NMCA West Autocross in Fontana and it was up against a built Gallardo and a 911 GT3 RS.

While we're comparing the new Z to Toyota/Subaru products...

Toyota GR GT3 said to be "in development".

Yes, this is a concept render but "high ups" at Toyota have indicated it's moving ahead. No clue on price point/power or anything more than the render but if this comes to fruition as a mass market (vs halo) car, Nissan's gonna face some competition in the segment.

Not sure if it's just me but that front end says "A70 Supra" (late 80s-early 90s) to me. The Z isn't the only one with retro design cues? Maybe/likely it's my aged eyes tricking me. Laff...

I can see the resemblance a little, looks like it could be a LFA equivalent or something.

^^^ Bears an uncanny resemblance to my '83 Mitsu Starion (which was a fun car even before the '86 introduction of intercoolers).

Yeah, we were also supposed to get a beautiful Supra, member the FT1 Concept? And then we got the bulbous goofball that is the A90/91?

I call shenanigans.

You know what? Good for Nissan! Good for them for charging $54,015 for an updated car that came out decades ago that was basically updated from a car that was on the road 20 years ago. You can't be mad at them. Unless, of course for some reason you actually want to buy one of these cars.

Regards:

Fun facts. " $37,000 in 2008 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $50,231.31 today, an increase of $13,231.31 over 14 years."
"Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2008 Nissan 350Z Coupe start at $27,980 for the 350Z 6MT model and go up to $37,210 for the 350Z Grand Touring 5AT. The NISMO 350Z is priced at $38,150." Adjusted for inflation. MSRP remains pretty much the same for a much updated model.

Maybe you guys would be happier with a "cookie cutter" base Mustang eco-boost, MSRP just $28.5k, if you can find one for that.

Peace,
See? I’m not the only pseudo-economist here! (Post 953).

I get everyone saying “old technology!” and “value’s not there” and “I’d buy something else for those dollars” but as I’ve said before (and will continue to), I am happy that there IS a 7th Gen Z than not. And, as it’s always been, feel that the Z fits the market it’s in: mid-market GT with a relative price point for the segment.

People can have their opinions of the car based in whatever criteria; be it price/value or as this thread demonstrates, the performance aspect. But in all honesty, it’s all personal preference. Hey, as much of a Z zealot as I am (and pride myself in having owned every (recent acquisition) gen Z), not likely going to buy one until I at least get a drive in one and not until a Nismo version is available.

My only real point: the price is relative.

Mic, I get inflation, I REALLLY DO. That's not so much my argument as I've stated before, I'm not even going that far back. A 2020 or 2021 Z34N was $45k that's supposed to the best of the best, body kit, Recaros, chassis tuning, extra power, etc.
A mere few years ago, and the "inferior" (in my eyes) performance model costs over $5k more?
Inflation should be superceded by the old chassis and reused parts.

I hear ya and respect that comparison as I thought my Z34N was pretty much the sh*t too but I also recognize the fact that I've not driven the new one yet so reserving judgement until that happens.

I will say, however, that the opinions of Rob, Alvin, Josh over at Z Car Garage (you know i'm a total fanboi of the shop, laff) weigh heavily on me. They were the first (in Northern California) to display the new one a while back. Since then, they were entrusted with one since the ZONC (Z Owners of NorCal) 50th Anniversary event earlier this month. The comments and teases on the new car from them has been extremely positive (will pass on link to their impressions when it's released.) So, seeing as how I have great trust in them, have some predilection to the car already. But again, seat time will be the final arbiter in whether it gets the coveted "Seal of MicApproval". (Like anyone cares.) Hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!

But another way I look at it is that - like most product lines be it mundane stuff like laundry detergent to cars - product evolution *usually* adds more good than bad and the Z car line is no exception. From my first S30s to my Nismos, the improvement from gen to gen has been steadily increased with my Z34N, sadly only marginally better than my previous gen (Z33N. But I can hope that the new one offers more than "marginally" better.

What I do like about the new Z (others will view it as not much of an improvement) is that from what I can see, the new one doesn't have all of the bells and whistles "junk" (IMO) that so many other new cars have. Obviously, because of my age and how "I'm used to things" (read: "old" and "old school, get off my lawn"), I have NO need for electronic dashboards, cars thinking they're smarter than me, and most of the new comfort/convenience features in new cars. Obviously, with so many things about the new car that are based on previous gen/legacy Z cars, that grabs me right away.

But I digress (as usual), back on topic. "Z34 v.2.0" worth $5k more? I'll let you know as soon as I can get into one.

Mic, as a mechanic I agree with you on the simplicity of the old school. New stuff is great and all but I HATE digital dashes and capacitive buttons on cars (they don't belong) the Z in that department is another let down for me, since it has a digital dash. I am willing to accept digital dashes if the car is overall exceptional, but speaking as a Z enthusiast and someone who has had a 350Z for 11 years and will do so as long as I live....there are issues with trim levels (ignoring price) and many have said that. Tony said the base brakes are week (shocker), and almost all agree that the LSD should be standard across the board.
If they wanted my money the car would almost have to be made for me a la carte, I don't want the active sound canceling, exhaust valves, sound enhancement, and other useless stuff the performance adds. I do want the Akebonos, LSD, launch control with flat foot shifting, leather interior, 9" infotainment, spoiler, and premium steering wheel. That spec doesn't exist, I suspect the Nismo (if made) would be close but it would also be closer to $60k and for that money I'd buy a used German car lol.

For $60k, I think I'll build a Tesla killer.
