I agree with you there. The time for the GT-R quoted by Porsche is right around what Sport Auto did with the GT-R, however, the Sport Auto test was just a break-in for the GT-R... They didn't push it too hard.

Porsche isn't saying that the GT-R didn't run those times. They are saying that it didn't do it in production, off the lot form(ie upped boost, slicks, etc.).

I'd believe it more if the GT-R was consistently running slower lap times around other tracks than other cars, especially a comparison like Top Gear when it's the same driver) and the 1/4 mile times were in the low-mid 12s

Well it's good to see that porsche aren't sour about the whole deal.
Has nobody else noted that they ran the track on michelin sport cups? Here in Europe those are semi-slick tyres! So if the GT-R did run on semi slick tyres, then it would only make the comparison fair.
The GT-R is AWD, but only when in corners. It has an electronically controlled 4WD system so it only applies power to the front wheels when it needs it. The GT-R's gearbox is a far superior piece to the 911 turbos. Have you ever driven a 911 turbo? I have and the gearbox is shocking for such an expensive car! And yes it was the most recent 911 turbo.
On top gear which we could call the independent testers, the GT-R was faster around there track!! And that's around a short track. Make the track longer, and that time difference will only get bigger. So they claim there driver managed 7:38 in there 911 turbo. Well then it's only 9 seconds off the GT-R's pace which to me would seem about right.
Also, the GT-R's claimed power output is on the conservative side. Each engine is slightly different as they are all hand made, so some will have more power than others. Clarkson states that some of them have been know to be producing around 500bhp from the factory, so go figure.

I think the times are right, and porsche has just realised that they need to do something a bit more special if they want to justify there high price tag.

True that. I know it's faster than the 997TT. I just don't think it ran that 7:29 time bone stock. The 7:38 time Nissan first had sounded believable to me. The Spec-V sure, I'd believe 7:29.

However, the car is fast. That's all there is to it.

Being fast on a short track does not equate to being faster on a long track. If that were the case, Lotus would fare alot better at the Nurburgring.

I don't plan on voting for a certain political party this year, but I "give a rats ***" what they have to say.

one affects your day to day life and the world you live in - the other doesn't, so that is nowhere near a congruous comparison

Yes but the Top Gear track is actually a very fast track with lots of fast corners and long straights. I believe it only has 3 tight bends, so it makes a good comparison.

Their longest straight, the entire runway when they attempt high speed runs that's not even part of their normal track, is dogshit compared to the nurburgring's longest straight. Plus the track is entirely flat, not even comparable.

The level of logic in this thread is amazing.
