It takes a special kind of stupid to do something like this and "hate" the manufacturer for not fixing it for free.

Hang on a second while I throw my computer off the balcony and throw a shitfit when Toshiba tells me they won't replace it....

But the car should be able to withstand all the BS I do and when I break it, give me a new one because I paid alot and only drove it once.....blah,blah,blah. When will people take responsibility for their actions in this world, don't blame Nissan for your mistakes.

If you've got the cash to buy the car, and the ***** to modify it, then you shouldn't be complaining about having to buy a new engine, at any price. Oh well, he can always buy a used engine from one of the crashed ones
warranty no longer void? doesn't that mean the warranty is intact?

Lol. Fail Dave ^^

I can see getting upset for blowing a $55k engine because who really wants to spend more money for the same performance, right? But getting mad at Nissan for it is retarded.

Oh well, time for him to rebuild it and make even more insane hp That is, of course, if he doesn't have a DIY tune on a 90k car again.

I do feel bad for the guy - the fuel ratings are confusing between the US and overseas. He essentially ran a 97 octane map (US) with 93 octane fuel (US). That said, he knew he was taking a risk with a more aggressive tune (even had he picked the right map). The Z/G platforms are just so much more reasonable to play with given the costs and options available...

It sucks for the owner, but he had to know Nissan has set the car up in a way that modifing it is very expensive. 3 years later and respected Nissan tuners like Mines, Stillen and Amuse have barely been able to crack modest figures in reliable power. The car is not the same easy to crack beast that the R32, R33 & R34 was. The fact that Nissan is charging $55,000 should be what this guys gripe is about, not that it broke. No one can tell me they are right for putting a 400% tax on it so that people like us "Z33 Fanatics" don't swap in a factory turbo'ed high horse motor.

If he was trying to DIY tune and thought the problem when it blew was his "pushrods" then ya not very smart at all...

Man you'd be surprised how quickly you get used to the speed. The bug to modify always rears it's ugly head.

I think stories like this serve as a pretty good pesticide for dealing with the mod bug.

^^^I'm looking at wheels and exhaust only. The thing that kills me more than anything else is the price of anything associated with the GT-R. Frikken expensive.

so much fail...

I would have gotten it professionally tuned especially since that motor is not NA. Somehow I dont trust some "generalized" maps from the accessport.

We are actually helping this customer rebuild his engine. Blown engines on the GT-R are virtually unheard of, even when pushing 300whp above the factory output. We've done it, and race tested it and this is one tough OEM engine.

That said, we think he had a defect of some kind. Nissan europe is recalling certain GT-R engines and replacing them. No matter what, running about 450-500whp with a canned Cobb AP map should not cause his engine to grenade.

At the end of the day, he is paying to fix his own engine.

How many miles is on his car? After checking the post out on the other forum it looks like user error.

Sad to say but like everyone says you have to pay to play. But I'm sure he will be a little safer on his new stronger bottom end(high timing weak fuel=boom).
