Default DDX 8017/DDX 7015 Owner Please Step In

Hi:
I am fairly new at this, and someone had just finished the installation for me(my car is a 05). Now that after Dynamat, my interior doesn't clip on all the way down. Especially the rear tower area. The installer said because the Dynamat is too thick. Is that usual?

I am using stock bracket for the DDX 8017. It's sticking out at least 0.5" Is there a bracket out there that I can have a flush mount or almost flush mount?

I also have the Navi 4100 for my DDX. When I switch to Navi screen, the screen says Navi off (4100 is on, I can hear the DVD running). My installer check all the wiring twice and said that there is no wiring problem. Is there any special set up I need to adjust on the head unit?

Any help will be wonderful, thanks in advance.

As far as the bracket goes, all you have to do is drill new holes in the bracket. Make the hole about 3/8 of an inch closer toward the front of the car. make sure to keep them parallel to each other.

sounds to me like your installer doesnt know what hes doing... just my .02

but to answer your questions no the dynamat should not be that thick unless it was caked on many layers mine has one layer overlapping slightly in places and my panels fit fine..

for the 8018 is it the ddx? i have the ddx-7017 and it fits flush perfectly using the factory brackets no modifications needed...

not sure about the navi don have much expierence with those...

Make sure the Navigation is plugged into the Navigation port. It looks just like the changer port, but is a different color. I have seen the same problem you are having and the Navigation was plugged into the changer port.

I'll ask him to check that, too bad he put everything back already. Now everything is going apart again.

How do you usually install the dynamat? Do you just lay them there and press it by hand? Or do you have to use a roller?
I think my installer just pressed it by hand, that's why it's thicker.

I would recommend using the Metra trim ring and the factory mounting brackets. For the best fit.

I had the same issue were my nav button was not lit up on the screen. All you have to do is push the video select button on the bottom left corner of your radio. It will cycle through, DVD, screen saver, nav, exc. I had the same problem at first where I couldn't figure out how to view the Nav.

For owner that have the 8017 and the nav.
How is your dimmer set up? The 8017 manual says it can be done with parking light.
The nav says it can be done with head light.
Is there a way to set up so when parking light is on the 8017 will dim, and when head light is on the nav will go dim?
Thanks

There is a dimmer wire in the OEM harness behind the radio, you simply have to connect the dimmer wire from the 8017 to it. This way when you turn on your lights, the screen will dim slightly.

As for the headunit not sitting flush with the trim plate. You will need to drill holes approximately 3/8" behind the original mounting holes. See the pic below:

So, if I done that, while in Nav mode, the Nav will turn to night mode?

If you do this, the screen will brightness will dim even when usng the nav.

As for the night mode on the nav unit itself, I believe the actual background color of the map will change. For example, on the newer KNA-G510 unit, the ground color (e.g the spaces between the streets on map) will actually change from yellowish green to black. However, on my KNA-G510, there is no extra wire to tap into the headlight wire, I think it just change when the nav's internal clock reaches a certain time of day. If there is an extra wire to turn on the night mode from the DV4100, you can try tapping that into the dimmer wire as well. Hope this helps.

The new holes you drilled for the flush mount that's 3/8'' behind. What exactly does it creat?
I know that the DDX unit is flat, and our factory bracket is curved. Do you match the top and bottom or the sides?
I mean if you match the sides (head unit's sides flush with car), then the top and bottom will be lower than the car's bracket. If you match the top and bottom, then sides will still be sticking out a bit.

Also, when you say extra dimmer wire on the NAV for the night mode. Do you mean that there should be a wire on the NAV unit? Or extra wire on the DDX 8017?

Thanks for all your help

The newly drilled holes in the brackets help to sit the headunit deeper into the console. See the picture below. The face of the headunit is sitting flush with the surrounding trim. I would just measure all the dimensions carefully to get the right position of the new holes.

I don't have a DV4100 so I am not sure if there is a wire coming from the nav for the dimmer control. Check your manual and see. Does your nav have an internal clock? If it does then most likely the night node is switched the time of day.
