Is anyone with a roadster having feathering problems?
Just Curious...

Noticed some tire roar around 13k miles.

At my 15 k service, they noted on the inspection sheet,
"wear on inside front tires".

Didn't drop the car, did add 19 inch wheels but had an alignment done early on b/c of pull to right.

Yep. Just recently surfaced around 9500 miles on my 2004.5 Roadster. I just took it in two days ago at 10,000 miles. I simply told the dealer about the roaring and asked them to check it out. They called me back a few hours later and said they were going to put on two new tires and adjust the alignment. I can't say I am thrilled about the roaring, but I am impressed how they stepped forward and dealt with it. I just hope it is not an on going problem. We'll see.

Yes! Feathering on my 2004 Roadster at about 9,500 miles. I suffered through the roaring until about 13K miles and couldn't take it anymore. Dealer wouldn't replace the tires. Cost me $600 to replace with new Michelin's. Needless to say, I'm still pissed and I tell everyone I speak with about the problem every chance I get. I must have told at least 100 co-workers and friends by now.

don't trash the roadster b/c you have a rogue dealer that hasn't responded the way nearly every other one has. Just about every other case the dealers have stepped forward to correct the problem. with so much info on these forums and the TSB's about feathering, your dealer hasn't a leg to stand on. You should have fought that or taken it elsewhere. This car has a lot more going for it. I urge you to get a copy of the TSB's, some prints from the numerous threads where this has been discussed, as well as contacts at other dealers where the problem has been corrected and take it back to them and get your money back on the tires. But please don't trash the roadster to people that really don't understand what is going on with these cars.

what kind of rims do you have on your roadster? looks like the centers are either grey or black. any other pics.

for those of you who have taken your cars in to the dealer for feathering, will they change the tires and align if you have aftermarket wheels?

Ok, so the problem does exist on roadsters... Next question is, those that have the feathering problem, are you cars running stock? Or do you have an suspension kit on like the Nismo Type S Suspension.

By the way I was talking to a performance shop and he mentioned that cars with wide aftermarket rims should have there alignment redone every 6000-7500 miles, reason is the wider width and limited adjustments, the alignment has to be right on and the more you drive the more the alignment will slowly go out of spec. Weather it be driving over rough roads, hitting a pothole, etc...

For those having problems with feathering and their dealers...The dealer that I took my feathering problem to, who immediately said, "We will replace the tires and re-align the front," was not even the dealer I purchased it from. You really shouldn't receive any hassle from ANY dealer.

You are all lucky to get this answer, but my dealer said and nissan canada said it's not warranty. They said it's only a 2003 prob and not a 2004. So for me, nissan have a shitty service so I don't go anymore at the dealer.

For you guys who get the problem solve, do you have a TSB for 2004 Z? If yes, can you give me link and number pleaze.

Thanks

Check out this thread on the roadster forum; I've posted quite a few pics and a close up of the rims. These are Work VS-TX, by the way, in gunmetal.

Re: your other question, my dealer was going to align after my suspension, wheel, and tire mods but below the radar so to speak. I think there might be some difficulty getting it done after you've made suspension changes. I opted to have it done on my own elsewhere where I trusted they knew what kind of wheels they had and have had experience aligning the Z's. I just couldn't trust the Nissan techs or the Gateway techs with my rims.

Default You can get Tires

Stock 04 17" started feathering at 9000. Took to dealer around 10,500. Nissian said not covered. Told them not acceptable. Make long story short and several phone calls got ok to replace tires. Nissian said OEM tires on back order to 03/01/05. Again told them not acceptable. Got ok to purchase tires and Nissian will reimburse. Any suggestions on what tires to purchase?

I had the feathering problem at around 10,000 miles. I went to a dealer who replaced the front tires and realigned the front end at ~16000 miles (wasn't the one I purchased from). I'm at 27,000 miles and haven't had the problem reappear, yet)

I'm puzzled. Took mine in about a week ago for the same problem, and they had new OEM tires in the shop within 4 days.

Roadster build 7/03. Tires feathering at 5,000 miles. Dealer dismounted and rotated and alignment was performed. Feathering on the inside again at 8,000 miles. Dealer just replaced tires and alignment was done again. Same exact tire but with different inner and outer tread pattern. Hope it works.

Actually the problem is that the Nissan Canada has a different TSB system than the States.

I experienced this when I went to have my top replaced. I gave them the TSB number and they couldn't find it. A few weeks later, Nissan Canada issued a TSB and then I finally had the top done.

I would suspect the Tire Feather TSB's are different here to.

Default the Fix!!!!

I had Feathering problems at 6,500miles.....
Dealer than gave me two Front tires (OEM)

at the 1500 Miles mark, I bought
Michelin Pilot All Season ZR tires.....

now at 24K miles, still no feathering.....

I believe it is cause by the Soft OEM front tires....

Just get harder front compound tires.....
I don't Race so i didn't care of the trade off's.....

Plus the Michelin's that I bought are of Very
high Quality.....

am now a happy camper....

I love my ZR!!!!!
