My coupe isn't run of the mill dime a dozen. It stands out on the road, more than many convertibles do, and I get constant oohs and ahhhs, heh. If I did what I did to my coupe to a roadster, it would probably get the same.

As I said, all roadsters are great in many ways (even a Yugo convertible has plus points), however can't someone have a preference in terms of looks and body style?

If they would have designed it with a hump or slope in back of the seats, or at least something besides a large flat trunk that seems too long, I think it would have been better.

Like I said, I didn't think the front end was that great with either car (which is why I changed it). Overall, I find the stock cars a bit on the bland side (coupe or convertible). If I could change the back end somehow (and could find gated parking at work, heh) then I would have gone for the convertible.
Juvenile? Oh please. Did I call people names? No. Did I fill my post with profanity? No. Did I say coupes are ugly? No. So I'm juvenile because I said your coupe is a dime a dozen (a rude way of saying very common) but all the coupe guys calling the roadster fugly isn't juvenile or hateful? Give me a break.

BTW I'm thinking about trading in for a 06 coupe this winter. Why because I'm thinking about going all out performane and the coupe is the better platform for racing. I've already got LMGT4 wheels, HKS coilovers, APS TT (ceramic coated hot parts), and preordered the HKS dual Ti exhaust. If I do get the coupe...I will build up the motor with forged rods/pistons for 500+ whp (yes I know I need to get 12lb actuators).

So bottomline...I love both the coupe and the roadster. Both sweet rides.

Good point Camel. That's another reason why it would be prudent for me to get a coupe for racing...for survival.

Juvenile... and rude. The coupe guys are discussing... the car. What are you discussing? The thread title is, "Do you prefer the Coupe or the Roadster?" Apparently you designed the roadster and take it personally that people don't care for the design of it?

Maybe in Seattle , "The roadster is very rare on the road and it STANDS out" but here in California, it's not rare ("a dime a dozen"), and I don't think they stand out more or less than Z's in general.

Dude...will you lighten up. My jab at the coupe was in response to the fugly comments. I'm just defending my car...as you are defending your coupe so vehemently right now. I said I love both the coupe and the roadster at the bottom of my post but you still persist in attacking me. Talk about juvenile...

How was he insulting anyone? By stating that coupes are common these days? by stating you are probably bitter about roadster getting more attention? How is that worse than someone (indirectly) calling his car FUGLY, HORRIBLE, EW...etc.

The only reason why you would be mad is that you actually take truth to what he states. If you don't believe that , then it shouldnt have bothered you enough to... 'ignore' him? talk about juvenile...

Anyways, as I stated earlier, and for the original poster, it will be best to see for yourself and test drive one. Alot of these comments here are pretty biased, and in some ways immature. Either car you get, you'll be a winner in my book Just don't go on 350z forums and tell your fellow Z members that their car looks like crap, etc. Do that in a chevy forum or something .... lol j/k

Are you that dumb that you can't understand?

I don't like the back. I didn't buy it. I'm not insulting him, nor any roadster owner. I'm not talking about him. I'm talking about... the car (and only the back of the car).

He's talking about how I (and others) are bitter. He's talking about... me... not the car.

(Spelling it out probably won't help, but gee...)

Trust me, my car gets plenty of attention, not that that's why I've modified my car. I do it for me and no one else. I'm not probably bitter, nor partially bitter, nor even the least bit bitter if I do or don't get attention. So you're, "the only reason" is simply wrong troll.

I have many people on my ignore list. that's what it's for, and I've found it weeds out the less intelligent rather well. Why should I read the idotic garbage that spews from them? Guess what, don't have to, and don't. Click. Feel free to use it yourself. Don't care.

Sorry, but my comments on the design of the roadster are directed at the designers of the car, not the people that own them. I don't like it. Great that you do. Not meant to be a personal insult to you.

I don't like the '06 headlights either. Is that an insult to the people who buy 06's? No. Am I saying that because I am bitter that I don't have '06 headlights? No. If someone said I was, would the only reason I'd be mad is that I'd take truth to someone who said I was bitter? No, I'd think they're an idiot and add them to the idiot list. Yeah us 03-05 owners are a dime a dozen. Still don't like the new headlights. Still am not bitter. Still on my ignore list.

Troll troll troll your boat gently down the thread.

The only reason I would recommend getting the roadster is if your a chick wanting to let your hair blow in the wind or if your a gay male trying to pick up another gay male....cuz thats what they did with this car when they cut the roof off..gayest roadster ever..its even gayer then the vw beetle.

It was immature of him to fight back with the same immature response and stoop to the level of who he thought was immature. Ironic, don't you think? And Chicken is right. He made it personal by attacking the people who drive the coupes and not the coupes itself. Didn't think he would have to spell it out either >_<;;

LOL, seriously...lighten up dude, why are you getting all worked up online over this, for such a silly reason. Did I say something to offend you? Your poor attempt to insult me really shows your maturity level, so now I understand your reactions. But unlike you, I'm not going to let it bother me because i'ts just plain silly to get mad over the internet....Have a great day and enjoy your Z! Peace.

for me it was climate, harsh winters, long commute where the sky is prone to open up while I'm on the highway. Clouds move fast. Plus most girls I drive around freak out above their hair. I might try and find an older convertible for a good price when the weather is good

So, at 6.4secs to 60mph, it's just half a second slower, while the electronically limited 150mph maximum speed is identical.
I live in the deep south, so weather is not really a factor, with the top down I love to hear that sound. As for security, lets face it, the car manufacurers have not yet come up with a car that cannot be broken into and driven within a couple of minutes, if they want it they'll take it.
The coupe is a beautiful ride and classy looks, maybe I should get another!!!!
6.4sec to 60? where are you getting your info? Car & Driver tested at 5.5 sec and Road & track tested at 5.7 sec. No slower than the coupe at all. That point aside, the roadster experience is about more than pure speed. Top down driving is a thrill all it's own. Still, the roadster is definitely a "second" car. If you are only going to have one car, get the coupe. With regards to the issue of looks....The coupe obviously looks better than the roadster with the top up, but with the top down, the roadster wins. I have never seen or owned a car that turns heads like the ZR. The double-bubble behind the roll bars gives the car a really exotic look. In the handling department, my roadster with Nismo suspension and wheels is absolutely unflappable. I give out way before the car does. However, if you want to do a lot of sustained high speed driving, the wind noise in the roadster will get to you after a while. For me, my ZR is a total toy. I get up early on weekend mornings and go for drives down country roads. I take the car for when I go out for a nice dinner with my wife, or to the ocean, etc. I really don't use it for any practical needs. For that I use my Honda Pilot.

You really need to decide whether or not you want a convertible. That's the real decision. If you do, the ZR leaves nothing to be desired. It rocks in every way, but it really shouldn't be your only vehicle.

Visionboy, that was a great analogy...LOL! I hope that makes it easier for the coupe guys to understand how insulting the roadster is in effect insulting the owners as well.

I apologize to all the coupe guys for the insult...but please refrain from calling the roadster fugly from now on?

Hmm....I'm confused? I have a gorgeous wife and two kids and I just found out today that I must be gay.

By the way, when did you say the next cross-burning was? Are you sure it's okay to come in a "jap" car? My Ford 350 Dualie with gun-rack and Confederate flags is in the shop right now.

And the correct grammer would be "you're a chick", not "your a chick" as you so eloquently phrased it. Ooops, sorry, is eloquent too ***gy a word?

Here are my honest thoughts considering I owned both at one time.

I use to own a Coupe and now I have Roadster.

Let me tell you that I DO NOT MISS my Coupe at all. I enjoy my Roadster so much more. I get lots of compliment and people turning heads espcially with the top down.

I have so much fun Driving with top down espcially on Pacific Coast Highway on sunny day here in Sunny Southern California (as long as its not too hot) or driving top down on nice summer night with cool wind breezing by.

I don't regret buying Roadster at all ,not even for a second & if I had to do it again, I would go with Roadster from the start.

If you are not going to Track your car, live in a area where there are bad weathers or have long cold winter, I would definately recomend.

Roadster

As for issues or problems, None except for 2nd gear knoch/grind from time to time which applies to all 350Z regardless of Coupe or Roadster

Also one more thing, cracked windshield.

Here are some pics of both cars. To be fair both cars have similar set up including the wheels & exhaust, not like the other photo where someone posted coupe with body kit and the roadster did not have body kit.
