Has anyone here installed a louder directional clicker??
I keep leaving my directionals on because I can't here it with the top down. Especially after getting on the highway. For some reason the Z directionals don't turn off unless its like a 90 degree turn. I think it would be helpful if I installed a louder flasher.
The Z has a strange clicker mechanism. Rather than the traditional clicker, which is the sound of the relay clicking on and off, the Z's signal is controlled electronically (which is silent), and then a small speaker makes the click noise. I don't know how you would approach making it louder.
I've gotten used to this problem. When the top is down and the sun is blaring, it is second nature to me to check the that the turn signal has turned off. I also drive a motorcycle (which requires you to turn off the signal manually) so maybe that helps too.

I read the heading and just laughed!! I run into this problem all the time. I am on the freeway thinking I am all cool in my Z with the top down and then notice the directional has been on for the last 2 miles!! DOH!! We need a louder clicker!
Lee ZR, Its good to hear its not just me.
maxpowers, I figured it wouldn't be easy. I was hoping it would be but something told me it wouldn't. I also have a motorcycle and I usually remember to turn the directionals off on that because I am thinking about them. This is the first car I've owned that I can't hear them and I can barely see them. Since I'm not really thinking about them I end up leaving them on for miles before I realize it.
I also think they should turn off on their own easier. I almost always have to turn them off manually. It takes a 90 degree turn in order for them to shut off automatically. They never turn off on highway off/on ramps automatically.
Maybe some day, someone will come up with a way to increase their volume.

I solved the problem this way: (I'm a 67 Y/O geezer and the last thing I need is to be accused of being senile)
Bought two 12 volt buzzers at Radio Shack - about 3-5 bucks each. They have various frequencies. choose one(s) you like. I chose two different frequencies so i can even tell left from right - but watch out that they don't produce a discord - can sound like hell when the hazzard flasher is on.
Tapped into the green/black wire coming out from behind the headlight. I used a "saddle" type connector also from "The Shack" (I probably could have searched forever under the dash but this was easier)
Ran the wires through the firewall near the steering column.
Grounded the buzzers (black lead) to a convienient point under the dash.
Adhered the buzzers under the dash with double faced foam tape.
You can put more double faced tape on the face if they are too loud. The amount of tape can control the volume
Did it about 6 months ago and so far, it's working fine.
