Default Trunk locking question

I have had my ZR for about 6 months now & it just dawned on me that it is too easy to get into the locked trunk.

Whenever I park the car with the top down I roll up the windows & lock the car. The other day I reached over the window & unlocked the driver door using the latch by the door opener. By doing that the trunk unlocked just like the manual says (Duh!). I guess the obvious never was that obvious to me.

I realize now that I should never leave valuables in the trunk. When I had my Miata I disabled the interior trunk release & could only use my key to get in the trunk. That is not an option on the ZR.

Is there a way of bypassing that security problem? Can I disable the trunk unlocking except by using the key or keyfob?

There is a switch in the GLove box behind the passenger seat. I know this disable the trunk opening from the button located on the trunk. Give it a try

You can also try a aftermarket proximity sensor which sets off your alarm if someone reaches into your car with the top down

except shouldn't unlocking the car from the inside (after locking it with the remote) without using the key or remote cause the alarm to go off??

I found "A" solution, not necessarily the "BEST" solution.

rjpaterson is correct. Inside the rear floor box behind the passenger seat is an ON/OFF switch that controls the trunk lock. In the OFF position the trunk can be opened ONLY using the trunk hold button on the keyfob. If you unlock the car using the key or keyfob you cannot open the trunk using the trunk release switch above the license plate. ONLY the keyfob opener will work. The information is on page 3-12 of the owners manual (remember that thing that came with the car?).

This works for me even if it is a bit inconvenient. If the battery dies in the car or the keyfob, there is a manual trunk release inside the floor box. Instructions are on page 3-13.

If the battery is dead, how do you move the electric seat up so that you can get to the trunk release in the compartment behind the seat. Of course assuming that the seat is all the way back which mine generally is.

if car battery is dead, use the key fob. if key fob battery is dead AND car battery is dead AND you have the switch turn off....then you're screwed

Yes, however it takes 30 seconds for the alarm system to activate itself (p. 2-18, para. 4 of owner's manual).

I'm not sure about this, but if the car battery is dead the key fob won't work, even if the fob is OK, since there is no juice to the radio-controlled trunk release.
