Default 06 Zr Tach Gauge Issue...

i was cruising today and was at a red light. i noticed that my tachgauge just went bloop... like the car was off. surely, rest assure i did NOT stall out... needle stayed and bounced back up once i hit a bump. has anyone else had this happen on the 06 touring model? maybe i should take it to the dealer... i used to be a technician, the information i can only give them is the gauges stopped working. but it'll be a hard task for them to duplicate it again. anyone???

Normal...It has to do with the sunlight on the light sensor in the tach.

I've yet to have the problem with my ZR, but could you clarify?

Thanks.

Well the tach has a light sensor that I think will become erratic when it is hit by too much sunlight. I have seen a few other people with this problem and this was the cause.

well it was a sunny day condition with the top down. maybe that is the result. isn't that an issue? i would really hate if i were at high rpms and the tach decides to dump.

its a known issue. more common on ZR's when ur driving away from the sun. Its not a big deal. it fixes it self.

Why is the tach sensing light?

Weird, never heard of that... . I know my 2004.5 roadster has never had the tach die on it and I drive in sun all the time here in Palm Springs...

so i got my zr back from the dealer today, and surely i knew they wouldn't be able to duplicate the problem... i need to play around with the sunlight when there's a chance, maybe i'll make a short video of it... it's gotta be something if it appeared twice on me... one at a red light intersection, and another instance leaving it out front of my friend's house... both situations with the top down...

I'll ask again: Why is there a light sensor in the tach?

Yes its an 06, no I didn't take it to the dealer. I'm fairly confident there's no way I'd be able to reproduce the problem in their presence.

I'm also wondering why the heck there's a light sensor on the tach.... weird.

ive had this happen as well and yes it was sunny but i never put that together with the tach sticking. mine stuck at like 2-3K and after a half mile went back to normal. has happened about four times but i only drive it on nice days so its usually always sunny.

talked to the service manager and he had never heard of the problem. i didnt bring it in to get service i just drove up and talked to him.

i think there's an issue with these '06 ZR Tachs... the only reason it has been addressed, is probably because it was never brought in to the service lane for complaints over the tachometer. even if they can't replicate the problem, surely it's of best interest to have the dealers know, so that their techline can handle this issue. no complaints = no technical bulletins. maybe this ZR is too early to spot little issues, but it may become bigger issues later down the road. hopefully there's enough people with these issues to find a resolution... such flaw shouldn't be avoided...

Yup... Happens once in a while when the tach heats up. Pretty weird. 2005 Roadster MT6.

My 04.5 ZR had this problem the second day I got it. Once I made a turn it fixed, didn't think of the sun.

Is Nissan aware of this or am I wasting my time taking it to the dealer?
