Nissan Roadster Over Supply
Here were I live I see the local Nissan dealer still has 2 new brand new 2005 roadsters on his lot and its almost time for the 2007 models. When I bought my roadster I read where Nissan was going to build a limited supply. 6 months after that, I see the local dealer has like 9-12 on his lot and it looks like his inventory of roadsters stays in that range. That is one of the reasons that I traded for my Audi A4 convertible as due to the over supply the trade-in values of used roadsters started dropping. I checked various sources and I got about what the other used roadsters were going for. I'm also glad I didn't replace my top and kept the insurance money for the cut as I don't think I would have gotten anymore for it and the dealer could have used the new top as a selling point. The Audi isn't as quick as the Z but I have always bought my cars based on looks as where on the roads are you going to be able to use 500 Hp? I could see it if you plan to goto the track.
Since I don't plan on reselling my roadster this doesn't really bother me.
Not sure If I could take that much of a power cut, especially since it weighs 500+ more lbs than a Z roadster.

If you even initially bought the Z as an investment, you should really reconsider your strategies. Barring the vehicle being a high end exotic with extremely low production numbers, you shouldn't expect much for trade in value a few years down the road.

Your roadster had 500 hp? If so, were you SC, TT or ST?
Audis are great cars, but I must admit I would definitely miss the power of the Z over the Audi you purchased.

It looks like they only have one 2005 left now.
I bought the Z because I liked its look and bought the Audi because I liked its looks. We all have our preferences. On the 500 Hp comment what I meant was if you have a car with a lot of Hp where are you going to use it? I don't buy cars as an investment but since I do trade every 3-4 years I do keep tabs on resale values. The Audi has enough Hp for me and again we all have our preferences.

interesting thread....
I bought an '04 Roadster this year because it is a true sports car and looks great. While I agree that you can't get full use of the power of any car there is a visceral thrill involved in getting to speed in time flat.
In the end I am in agreement with muscleknight. This was my first fun car purchase and I bought mostly on looks and the fact that I wanted a convertible. For the money I don't think you can find another car to match the 350Z.
Cheers.

You can drive yourself berserk tracking resale values and current sale prices vs. what you paid, etc. Anyone who buys a computer or a plasma TV only has to wait a month or so to sink into price depression and regret.
Forget it - drop the top, drive and smile. It's a production car, not a limited-run, boutique, short or medium term investment.
It just happens to be one of the best obtainable production sports cars in the world. Enjoy it for what it is.
