Default Roadster and automatic carwashes

I just bought a 2007 350Z convertible. Has anybody had any problems running them through an automatic car wash.

WHY would you ever take your beautiful Z through an automated car wash?!

*groans!* Nooo dont do it!! Dont put ANY car through one of those things! Wash your car by hand with a nice washmit so you know its not being pelted by thousands of dirt infested ribbons of fabric traveling at the speed of sound. Ive never seen a convertible go through one of those things, but the way those spinning beasts hit on the car I cant imagine it would be all that healthy for it.

So unless you have absolutely no other way to wash your car then stay away.

Seriously, I have an '05 Roadster and there's NO WAY it would ever go through an automated car wash. Are you kidding? The roof shouldn't be exposed to that. Locally, there are a few car wash places that will do a convertible all by hand, I wouldn't even think of that either!

I would never suggest running your Z through a car wash unless you want small surface scratches and possibly some wheel damage. Just think how many work pickup trucks go through there. Also the idiots at the end of the car wash drying your car with a towel that has been used on numerous cars and who knows what else. Not counting your top. DON"T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forgot to add, automatic carwash, it's a really really bad idea, even if it's touchless. The detergents they use are really harsh, the water may be recylced and contain particles which will pit your paint. the PSI of the water can't be good for the top either.

uh oh...that sounds like a REALLY bad idea. yeah even touchless its too harsh #1, and because the soap is probably no good for our top. Plus washing it yourself will be a more thorough cleaning.

Mine has been through automatic washes (both touch and touchless) and it did fine - no swirls or smalls scratches in the paint and no holes in the roof.

However, I usually wash it myself by hand and she's waxed regularly.

If you aren't detailing it takes a whopping 30 minutes to wash, dry and add a little shine. One good swirl or scratch and you will regret it for a long time.
