Best aftermarket security system for roadster?
with all these recent incidents of top slashing, do they make aftermarkets that if someone touched the vehicle or convertible top, it'll let me know via a transmitter?
i've looked up some viper products with a "shock sensor", but i didn't know if it applied to our softtops as well.
i would just like something to let me know if someone is touching my vehicle or getting ready to do something.
in your opinion, would these be a worthy preventative measure...or would it just be an expensive way of letting me know that it's cut sooner...

Well your not going to find an alarm that is going to tell you that someone is getting ready to do something to your car. A shock sensor dose exactly what its name suggests, reads a vibration. I have a viper alarm, and if I set the sensitivity to high, even slight thunder from a storm will make it go off. And of course the wireless remote indicates that it is doing so If I cannot hear the car from where I am at. Sounds like you want a motion detector, which will go off every time someone walking their dog passes too close to your car.

Very easy to protect it; just use a proximity sensor, like Silverstripes said. Except, it's not anywhere near a thousand dollars. Personally, I'd use a Prestige APS997 2-way alarm and a DEI 508D proximity sensor and you should be fine. Spend 400 to 450 installed.

I remember someone who had a proximity alarm/sensor where I used to work. When someone (or something) got within 1 foot of his truck, it would say, "Warning, you are too close to this vehicle. Please step away." Not sure which brand of alarm/sensor this was, but it was interesting.
Of course everyone would purposely walk very close to his truck as much as possible so I'm not sure how effective it would really be.

I have a Viper 5000 with a proximity alarm. The proximity sensor is adjustable, if something is close to the car where the sensor can see it a warning will occur and send a message to the key fob up to 1/4 mile. If someone was to enter the driver compartment it will alarm, pretty cool to have when making a pit stop with the top down.

With a Viper alarm, you want the 508D add-on. Works great on my car in case I leave one of my windows open.
And if you have 516L add-on, you can record a warning message if he's too close. (Don't be too mean though..)
