Bose swap(mp 3)..need some advice
I have an 04 touring roadster and like to keep everything stock. Is it possible to swap my bose 6c for a current one that has an mp3 compatible head unit? I don't have a problem with the stereo sound and bose function of the HU but would really love to play my iPod. I have 2 different fm modulators and they work like crap and I don't want to be dicking around with them while I am driving. I would like to "plug and play" so to speak.
What year unit would you guys suggest? Is it an easy swap? Is there a theft guard on hu so that I ruin it if I try to pull it? I have checked everywhere...where would I beable to find a good one?
As always, thanks for your input

This unit allows you to play your iPod directly through your system. It's plug and play. They are for sale all of the time on here (I just sold mine). You have to pull out the center console and plug into the back of the unit.

Tell me, this usa spec..can anyone install it? What are the advantages over just swapping a HU? Does anything show up on the lcd HU display. Where does the wiring route to once plugged into the rear of the unit. What plug in am I looking for on the back of the unit? Everything remains stock? Will this work on my 04 Bose 6cd system?
Speak to me...thanks

The only thing you'll see on screen is CD# and track# (The stereo thinks the USA spec is a CD changer). There are two dip switches on the back that allow you to change the way you play your iPod. You can set them so that the 1-6 buttons control the iPod, or you can set them to control from the iPod. I'd recommend the first way so you don't run into someone.
You don't have to modify anything. You can take it out, plug the plugs back into the stereo and you're back to stock.
Hope this helps.
Great...so I will lose the function of my Bose 6cd player but in exchange I get my iPod..mmmm fair enough.
Now, where didyou run the ipod plug-in so that it looks clean? And also, how big is that little interface box? It looks large in photos on their website. Where do you mount that? I won't have to drill or ground it? I can use screws as mount for this box..screws that are already behind the dash? As you can tell, I am not all that handy although it sounds as if it is doable

My question..does the interface unit have 2 plugs on one end that each go into the back of the Bose HU? Are they marked clearly so that an idiot like me can figure it out?
Thanks for the dash removal flow guide..that REALLY helps out alot

The box is probably approximately three inches. I just dropped mine in so it sat on the floor behind the stereo. No screws and no grounding. It literally just plugs in and is ready to go.

Another quick question...what is the easiest way to remove the felt type liner that is in the console back between the seats. The removable cupholder obviously popped out but I am unable to find a lip/edge on the felt liner so that I can pull it out for the ipod interface wiring as well as drill a hole in it for the wiring as well.
Also..what size hole do I need to drill in this console liner so that the round end opposite the 30 prong ipod flat connector can fit thru. This would be the end that would plug into the interface. It looks round..almost like a s-video prong. It looks to be about 1/2" but not sure at all. Thanks for the info

With this unit, you do not lose the ability to play CDs. The iPod works with navigation. You do not see song titles on the Bose display. You see them on the iPod which can be set to continuos display, because the unit charges while plugged it. I had mine mounted with to the right of the Bose unit. It is removable with Velco. Steering wheel controls control volume and song selection.
