Thumbs down Having Examined the Roadster, Here's What I Think.

I dropped by my Nissan dealer today for service and I saw the Roadster sitting out front. Well, I waltzed in and grabbed one of my friends who works there, and we wnt out and I was playing around with it. Here's how I feel:

1.) I was delighted with the new kick plates in the door. Much snazzier.

2.) I was also delighted that every model, Touring or not, has power seats. Also, the passenger's seat has the power to go up and down, not just back and forth -- in the '03 Coupe, only the drive'rs seat has both functions -- the passenger only gets back and forth control.

3.) I was dissapointed that the Roadster does not include the motorized NAV door that I have heard is included in the '04 Coupe.

4.) Maybe it was due to the lack of brake-in, but the exhaust sounded WAY different than my roadster ever has. It was much ricier -- it sounded half way to the Injen SES. Not as deep, but it definitely had that smooth "brrrrrr" fart can element which I have grown to loathe.

5.) I was VERY, VERY, VERY sorely dissapointed in the quality of the top. This is my main gripe. After playing with it for a few minutes, my buddy who works at the dealership showed me that, if you put the top up and look behind the seats, you can see light coming in through where the soft top should supposedly be forming a tight seal with the car!!! This means water is prone to come in through the top, and washing the car will require some extra delicacy. He also showed me that the fitment between the windows and the top is very crude. It was easy for my to stick my finger between the padding and the window. ARGH! It pisses me off quite a bit that Nissan wouldn't put the extra time into R&D on this product.

Alright, that's it. Let me have it!

Crap crap crap.

Well I better move with my roadster to a place that doesn't rain that often, which is fine, because I don't think I'll miss Seattle.

Default Don't sweat the rain

If rain gets in your car Nissan will have to fix the problem - That is covered by warranty. If they can't fix it they have to replace the whole car. - Trust me they would prefere to replace the top not the car.

The passenger seat had to be motorized for the roof to work.

I did not notice the door sills. How are they different ? Anyone got a pic ?

Default door sills

The door sills are the same - You can opt for the all aluminum door sills, but you can all get that gor the coupe - check courtesyparts.com - I have ordered plenty of stuff there and they are very fast. Ordered regular ground shipment and got it in 2 days.

Default I Am going based on mY dealership

That is what my dealership tells me.

Of course I was the one who told the that Nissan was making a Roadster, That Nissan was now taking orders for the roadster, that you can call Nissan and find out where the car is, that Nissan has posted the MSRP on the roadster. - Basically I have alot more info than the new car manager that makes 250,000 a year. - I must be in the wrong business.

Yes, it is lined -- very well, I might add. It even has a heated glass rear window. The only problem with the top in my opinion is the poor fitment.

I remember somewhere in some magazine where they tested the Z roadster by shooting it with water jet. It gave the Z flying colors but I think they were focused on where the top and the front windshield comes together. It's has three latches that opens with one lever, which made it more secure than other convertible tops.

I don't think they bothered with the back because water seldom come in that way. Unless you're in a typhoon which then you're screwed anyways.
