Default URGENT HELP - Keys locked in roadster trunk

sitting in a parking lot typing this on my phone.

locked my keys in my roadsters trunk. managed to break into car ok (way too easy) but door unlock button does not unlock electronic trunk latch above license plate. I know coupes have a manual release under rear roll bar but where is it in the roadster.

sitting waiting for replies.

this sucks

same thing happened to me. I was scared for at least two hours.

In my roadster, i opened the cubby behind the passenger seat, look either on top or the bottom of the cubby. There will be a release button for the trunk.

I have found a little swich with off/on written on it and a symbol for the trunk but flicking it to either setting does nothing - trunk switch not opening. not seeing any kind of cable or manual release

just tried that and the guy kept saying to use the valet switch in the cubby but it does nothing. he said there was a manual tlease on drivers side kickplate on the 03's but they took it off the 04's. This is the stupidist design I ever saw, completely dependent on electronics.

talked with another dealer (when in doubt ask another monkey) they said if I came in with my registration they could cut a key from my VIN.

turns out that because I opened the doors without the key fob or a key then the car is locked into valet mode.

Man, I got all the way to the dealer and when they put in my VIN they had no record for that VIN because the same dealer had not bothered to enter the key code into the system when they first sold the car (Mossy Nissan).

So now the car is stuck in the parking lot, I have to wait until tomorrow for them to be able to call Nissan direct and hope that they can retrieve the key code for the VIN from them (not guaranteed).

IF they can get the key code they have to send a mobile mechanic out and program that key to my car, if not they said they are going to try and hotwire the trunk latch by putting 12v across the switch in the hope of popping the trunk.

What a nightmare.

i told you there is a lever in the cubby... it's like a pull cable thing. Not the button for the trunk release, look up top of that. Do you want me to take a pic for you in my roadster?

btw, i have an 04 roadster as well.

try pulling the positive battery cable for a few minutes. Might reset the computer and disable valet mode.

That night help - I seriously felt around in the whole cubby for quite a while and could not find any manual release or lever. My car is a '04 model.

You have to pull it. Like a manual cable deal.

I'm wondering if someone has removed that cubby in the past and the pull cable has dropped down inside the rear enclosure - they come out pretty easily. I'll wait for the piccy and then drive back down there to break back into my own car again and try find it - what a theatrical production this has turned into.

if you put your hand in the cubby, it's up at the top of the cubby. You just pull on that lever.

In this quote I was referring to the small cubby behind the passenger seat. My wife said she did notice a fine cable running back through an eyelet when I removed the small cubby - sounds like it is the same cable running to the main cubby underneath - looks like we are onto the solution - on my way to drive back.

I really appreciate your help guys thanks

Well - YOU GUYS FRIGGIN' ROCK!!!!

There was a blanking plate over the little hole where the handle was, so that's why I kept brushing over it with my hand when I was feeling around in there. The little wire my wife saw was indeed thsame one that went to the handle.

So thankfully my baby is back in my garage safe and sound

Thanks for really going out of your way to help me and avoid some nasty bills from the dealership for having to send a guy out.

This weekend I'm off to get some new keys made

Thanks again

Joel
