What is this - and what does it do?-whatisthis.jpg

It is is the passenger side corner of the trunk - behind the jack...

any ideas?

Note - I do not see any wires going to/from this 'thing'. Seems that the center is mounted on a large rubber bushing and bounces around a bit...

It looks like it's the mechanical part that lifts lifts up and also close the lid where the top goes in if I recall correctly...did you check the right side also?

It's connected to that metal bar.

If not...then I'm not sure

I don't think it is connected to any metal bar...it is tucked WAY back in the corner of the car - behind the tire jack...strange....

That is what I am thinking. Or - fuel shut-off sensor (doesn't the fuel pump shut off if the car isn't shiny side up?)

So anyway....it isn't the source of my noise coming from rear of car...so...the hunt continues.
