Default Love the One You're With (or Why You Should Keep Your Roadster in This Recession)

OK gents, I just wrote this on my blog, thought to share:

It's pretty obvious that we're all experiencing some sort of uncertainty as we ride out the "Great Recession". Many of us in our move to a new frugality will sometimes behave in a rash manner, making decisions we may regret.

Yes, gentlemen - it's that insidious thought that has crossed all of our minds - why not replace my roadster for a fuel efficient car like a Prius? Or sell the car for extra cash? Why keep on spending for an unnecessary luxury? Well when you think about it enough, it turns out that it's generally a bad idea.

First of all, replacing your roadster with a new fuel-efficient car is really not economically feasible. Unless you drive a pretty new high-end roadster or convertible, you're going to put money out during the trade anyway. As for fuel economy, many roadsters can get a respectable 30+ mpg on the road. As for seating, just how many times do you have more than 2 people in your vehicle anyway?

Sell the car for extra cash? Well, unless you're out of a job and desperately need to be liquid, that's also a bad idea. Because everybody else is trying to save, used car prices are drastically lower than they would be during normal times. You wouldn't be getting the most for your money.

What about your roadster being an unnecessary luxury? Think about this: a memorable 2 hour scenic drive with a packed lunch with your significant other would cost you about $10, including your lunch. A 2 hour movie? More like $60.

Remember why you bought your roadster in the first place. It is a throwback to your youth, when you rode your bicycle during those summer evenings, the wind in your hair. It's because you enjoy the simple pleasure of just being on the road with friends.

In these times, it's these little things that bring the most joy with the least cost. In these times, you gotta love the one you're with.

True and logical, but I am definitely feeling a little guilty and conspicuous - driving around in a car that LOOKS expensive and SEEMS wasteful when other people can't afford a place to live.

If roadsters are gay then I better divorce my wife, move to Texas and get into politics because I am a closet homo. I love my roadster!

alright his comment was absolutely rediculous, but saying someone couldn't afford a roadster? they are just as cheap as the coupes now, and were never more then a couple grand higher at their peak.

he's just bitter for no apparent reason : P
