So I decided to remove my spare tire to lighten up my car. Everything was fine at first until I bought a box of water bottles from albertsons and put it in the trunk. The center of the trunk dipped in a little because the tire acted as a foundation and now its all hollow inside. I found that rather amusing.
Did anyone here who removed their wheel do anything to fix this problem? Or does it even matter?

If your going to put heavy stuff in your trunk you should definatnly fix it. If I were you I would buy a piece a foam project board from walmart (like $3.50) and cut it just a little bigger than your spare tire hole and lay it over the hole, under your carpet. That should give you your support back.

Yeah I too experience this issue.
Never had a flat (knock on wood),but then again that's why I have AAA and emergency fix-a-flat.
But anyways, my 04 bought used came without a spare, but I just take out the lining when I need to carry bigger stuff. I would love to make a custom carpetting that dips into the trunk area.

I keep my spare tire out of the trunk unless I'm traveling a longer distance. It'll be nice to get some support under there for when the spare isn't in there.

haha your responses are hilarious! i agree with booey1979 though, i would like to create something that dips down into the bottom so i can maximize my trunk space. one of my qualms about the 350z is that the trunk is too small. normally i wouldnt give a damn, but sometimes on my trips back from irvine my mom would pack a ton of food and supplies for me and i have to stash them in the front passenger seat.

Removing the spare is probably not the best thing when you have a flat. I even know a guy that would remove most interior panel (civic) along with the seat and his reasoning is it lightens up the car. My best advice is work out and lose lbs rather than pulling out the spare. Probably would remove it due to needing spaces to load up in my Z, but that's why I have a G20, to haul grocery and other stuff.

correct me if im wrong, but wouldnt the spare tire be pretty useless if you have different diameter rims anyway? i got 20s on my 350z now and that spare looks really thin and small in comparison. it wont even fit.

to lose a little weight and now i want to maximize my trunk space. i also find the wheel to have little use now that i have different rims/wheels. and dont worry, i am getting some mods.
