Default Tears in 350Z Convertible Top

On my '08 350Z, I have a 2+" tear near the bottom lefthand side of the rear window and one starting on the rightside in the same place. What is the cause of this? The car is under warranty and this should hopefully be taken care of. I want a new top but will they try to get out of that by "repairing" the tears if that is possible. Not sure how they would do that but I am sure that the tears will happen again once the car is out of warranty. I would appreciate comments from anyone who has gone through this and what I can expect to happen. Thanks.

Mine was replaced under warranty. Bring to their attention asap. Don' wait till warranty expire. They will inspect to see if it is manufacture defect. Mine had a tear at the seam. It was replaced a month prior to my warranty expire. Call Nissan headquarter if the dealer refuse. Try different dealer. Good luck.

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I already have a scheduled appointment for Saturday for my 30K maintenance and I added this situation to the appointment. Hopefully they won't give me a problem but if they do, I have a gameplan in place including going to a different dealer & contacting Nissan Headquarters.

My '08 is still under factory warranty which is the reason I don't have to pay anything. In fact the top came in today. I will drop off my Z & the dealer will give me a loaner car while the work is being done.

Default ZR torn soft top (not under warranty)

Hi, guys.
I have a same problem with my soft top. There is a tear on the bottom of left-hand side of rear window. And my car is out of warranty (04 350Z)
Do you guys think the dealership/nissan headquarter will do something
without paying anything since it's factory defect? if not, how much would i be paying for repair, or replacement?

Dealer won't do anything, just like the other poster said! You can temporary fix the problem DIY by using sail boat tape repair kit.

Or....buy a top and take it to a top specialty shop & not the dealer because that's where the dealer goes to.

Can you tell me the nature of your convertable top problem? I suspect I have a potential warranty-covereed tear, but the dealer is stating "no way".
