Unhappy Issues dropping the top

Hey all,

1st post here. Don’t need a door prize, but thanks! Anyway, since last week, my convertible top is having issues opening, and it’s getting worse. Below is a link showing what my top is doing. I don’t (and hope!) it’s not that expensive “5th bow issue” I've been reading about on this forum. You can see from :02 - :03 how it struggles, and then at :15 how there’s a slight pause before the top finally goes in. Any ideas? Help! And thanks!!

Oh, I should also mention there’re no issues when it closes (link below), and the temperature is not cold.

What year is yor roadster? I don't know about the pause you mention but I will tell you your top operates a lot smoother than my 07. Mine is a jerky motion.

Question

Thanks for the reply, ear-doc2! ZR is an '03. Good to hear (for me) it's smoother than yours, but it was A LOT smoother until last week. If you look at the video again, in that initial opening of the back lid for the first 4 seconds, you can hear & see it struggling so hard. It's actually shaking. That was all fluid.

Any extra thoughts?

Sorry, Joe. But the :15 part of your video looks like my '05 did when the 5th bow issue was starting to get bad.

Over a few weeks, mine got worse and worse until finally nothing would happen when I pressed the button to open.

(Closing was never an issue.)

Dealer fixed mine, partly under extended warranty (I paid $500, they paid $1000).

Blooster - Yikes!!!! But appreciate the words. Gonna do what I can now to extend the life like clean, lube, and maybe try replacing the brushes in the motor.

Cux350z - Yeah man! In 2011, I had one custom made for me. Great resale, even with a defective roof cuz it's a collector's item.

Or maybe fat fingers that made a typo...
