Roadster on ice, DON"T TRY THIS AT HOME!!!
I took the Z out on Saturday for the first time in a week. It looked like a nice day, about 55deg. and sunny About 200 feet from my house I had to cross a patch of ice about as big as the car. I was moving about 15mph when I crossed the ice. No warning, no TCS, the car made a hard right and smacked a tree. It took as long to do it as it did to say it. The first ding in the car is a good one, don't you think.

Thanks for the sympathy.
I took the car to a body shop I use and he guessed about $3K to $4K to fix. He didn't look real close (too cold). Reported it to my insurance and I'm waiting for an appraiser. I wonder what this will do to my rates. Oh well, it's only money. If I don't spend it on insurance I'd only have to spend it on stuff for the car or bike and the insurance companies can use it better than I can.

Oh man! That blows buddy! SOrry to hear it. HOpefully you don't get hosed on insurance too badly. I was planning to take my car out on dry/warmer days but now it looks like I'll definitely wait until spring has sprung.
Again, sorry about your smash. Yes, it is a good first one. Hood, fender and bumper. Wow.. . . .

A) stock tires are not good for icey conditions
b) stock rims are too narrow...
My advice to all is to change them as soon as possible...
looks like you didnt smack the tree too hard, no frame damage.
Gad your ok

sorry to hear about it. glad it wasnt more serious. it is surprising that there was ice on a 55 deg day. then again, i guess it may have been in the process of melting.
personally, i would take this opportunity and change out to a nismo replica bumper or something. i wouldnt go back to stock.
take care.

ZZ, sorry about your car, where at are you in CO?
Also, when you get your car fixed, change those brake pads. That brake dust looks yucky. You will be amazed. But I bet the dang wheels are the least of your problem right now.
Hope your insurance doesn't go up too much.
Be careful out there folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The road was the street in front of my house, it was about 55deg. and I was about 200 feet from turning into my driveway. The street was clear except for one patch of ice (probably wet from the sun) about as wide as the Z is long. I was doing 15mph with no gas or brake applied and TCS didn't even react. Just wasn't my day. After close inspection, most of the damage is plastic. Insurance is sending an appraiser to look it over. I'll let you know what happens.
PS: Didn't hurt the tree.
