Angry Video of my convertible top problem. Plz help!!

Hi

I am desperately looking for help on what is wrong with my convertible top. As you can see in this video of my car, it struggles during the 1st stage where the rear window lifts up. After that, everything else is fine. Just before the top goes in, there’s a slight pause.

The top closes with no issue at all:

Please help! Desperation kicking in. I will name my 1st born after you!

Thanks!

Soo, when you first started having the problem, did you notice it at any time? Or did it just start out of no where? Mine has a problem locking after I open it, I have to press down on the cover to get the "top open" light to go away. . .

Hi Charlie2004 - It always opened & closed just fine. Once in a while, the lid wouldn't "snap," but I just hit the open button for 1/2 a second to open the lid an inch, and then the close button for it to go down. But the real problem was when out of the blue, I went to open the top, and, as you can see in the video, it "struggled" to open. It struggled less before, and now it struggles more so I don't even open the roof any more. (And it's been in the 80s here!) I'm wondering if this is the famed 5th bow issue that I keep reading about. If not, what is it?

Thanks

Most likley its the 5th Bow Motor.

I had the same issue in 2009. If you don't have a warranty it will be a hefty repair.

I also had that same rip in my top. Finally had it replaced in January and its awesome. Top looks great and goes down faster than before. Issue is caused from the crappy bands.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, richcity. I was afraid that it would be the 5th bow and expensive.

Hey Rob! Thanks so much for the info. I feel dumb. Which is the 5th bow motor? The DIY looks like how to fix the motor. Perhaps I can swap out the motor entirely - if it's not horribly expensive, of course.

Are you really asking me to give you specific part number? You having trouble reading the parts diagram?

Since you're already naming your first born after me...I'm requesting pics of the wife/gf for my possible next form of payment.

I'd try cleaning first.

Yeah man, I can't tell which is the actual 5th bow motor. If it's the one I'm thinking it is, that's over $1,000!!! And I could have sworn I've read the motor is the same as the power window motor. Just didn't sound right.

LMAO! Well, for what it's worth, here's a pic of my car on Sunday:

This was the first time I dropped the top on *months* As you can see, it was for good reason.

Yeah, another great point. That, and I'll get some of that Nissan grease and lube up everything.

Thanks again!

I don't know if it's the same as the window motor. The only work and repairs I've done on a vert is on my buddies and that car is long gone.

There's actually only one motor on that parts diagram I sent you and it's 504.95

No need to go get "nissan" stuff to clean it, you can get nearly the same stuff at your local auto store for cheaper. Follow the DIY and compare yours to his. Whats the worst that could happen? You F it up and you have to buy a new one which you'd have to do if it was broke? And now you have the actual part to reference.

Again Rob, I truly appreciate it. I'll post here what happens. Just need to order the parts from eBay, buy some tools, and, most importantly, find the time!!
