2004 350z Roadster 5th Bow Problem
Hello there,
I hope your 2004 Roadster, wasn't repaired, at any of the two Nissan Dealerships, who gave me an estimate $1700-$1800plus to resolve my problem.
I was told by two different Nissan dealership service shops, yes the problem with the 5th bow, would be solved, with the replacement of the two (Left & Right) side motors. These motors were getting extremely hot, when trying to operate the convertible top. These 2 motors cost $600 plus each. And it's recomended, both motors be changed out.
$1700-$1800plus Wow!!
Well, after researching the information, of the same problem, our fellow MY350z.com message board owners, were having. It cost me, $900 and some change.
I was in St. Louis, MO when I had the repairs performed. In fact, I didn't need those 2 motors. I purchased the 5th Bow motor assembly from a Nissan parts dept. (it comes with the motor attached, to the cable assembly, and instructions on how to dismantle and assemble, this new hardware). I paid, a repair shop (who subcontracts outside work) to install the motor assembly.
Works like, there has never been a problem at all, with the roadster.
$900 and some change, compared to $1800plus!!!
Thanks You Guys at My350z.com for your communications and messages about this 5th Bow issue with the 350z Roadster.

Hate to say it but you could have saved yourself a bundle, even $900 is too much to fix this issue. For future reference check out my tutorial!

Well I had a similar issue. They ended up replacing the two side motors which obviously didn't solve the problem, so now they finally believe me that it's the 5th bow motor. But they say they can't find just the motor, but you have to buy the whole assembly with it which runs about $1400. Do you have the part number or where you can get just the motor?
thanks
Bluebadge thanks for your post, I didn't want to mess with it myself but now I wish I had. The mechanic is actually using your thread to help rebuild it if he can't find a new part. They are just going to replace the motor for free if they can find the part, since I was right all along.
thanks
