Roadster Roof - Will only open like half an inch and just makes click noise
Hi guys, new to forums, just bought a z and unfortunately after a couple days my roof is experiencing a problem (it worked fine the day before today!!!!).
I've been reading forums for about 3 hours and I'm unable to find a solution to this question I'm afraid.
Here's the problem:
I open the roof latch, foot on brake, press OPEN and the windows open, passenger seat moves forward then the roof makes a clicking noise and barely opens, enough to cause the dash roof light to illuminate.
Here's what I've tried:
- disconnected battery for 5 minutes
- removed the fuse, attempted to open to see if the symptoms would be the same, but without the fuse nothing happened of course
unfortunately that's all the information i could gather for this issue. Please give me more ideas or things to try. I can't see a nissan dealer for a couple days, even so i'd rather avoid them because they're generally useless.
Thanks all

OK. Lucky I like to get mechanically dirty!
I found the problem. two electrical tabs that are held by a bracket on the driver side (passenger for us australians) under the 5 bow. You need to lift up the top manually (just the window part), remove a bolt which holds the blue brackets that has the silver electric tabs. Pull out that unit and realign the tabs slightly!
Put back in and voila!!! it works again!
sorry i haven't got pics i was in a heated moment! hope this helps someone
EDIT: I do have this link though which relates to it:

EDIT 2: This wasn't the problem. But they're useful to help you diagnose the real problem.

I have been getting a real runaround from a couple of Nissan dealers & I stupidly fell for their spiel. I paid a pretty penny to have the selling dealer go over my car, which had been stored for several months, top to bottom, to make sure there were NO problems prior to me going on a lengthy road trip. Just before leaving, I tried to put the top down on the Z & it stuck & would not cooperate. It was obvious, sitting still at the dealer, that I had been charged for a lengthy list of check points, none of which had actually been checked. The top was actually firmly sealed to the metal car rim & took some prying to get it to release.
As it was time to leave on my trip, I could not wait while they ordered the retro-fit kit I was told had been created by the manufacturer to "fix" this known problem. They called the dealer at my destination while I stood by listening & made arrangements to have this installed at my convenience. I arranged for the appointment & a friend & I dropped the car off & left for breakfast. As soon as out food was served, we were called to pick up the car. Nothing had been done, as they said they could not replicate the problem. They were to do the install, not test the top. Ever since I have not been able to get the top to work correctly & the 2 dealers act as if they are deaf & dumb. I finally contacted Nissan directly & they were more rude & insolent than the 2 dealers. I have numerous emails back & forth over a long period of time. I agreed that whenever they had the kit in stock, I would bring the car in for the FREE install.
I have a serious illness & really cannot use the car with the top down often due to numerous skin cancers, so night time driving with it down is enjoyable for me at this time of year in Florida. It is several years now they have been making a fool of me. I know part of it is being a woman & they way we are taken advantage of is ridiculous.
I need some help. I have already spent over 6 months of this year hospitalized & I would really like to get some enjoyment from this $50,000. car before I can't drive anymore. Just how much guff do I have to endure before someone decides to be ethical? Or am I just dreaming?
Nissan has sent some idiotic emails & refuses to help me by email. They expect me to install a phone just so I can talk to them on the phone. Just the conversation I need from the hospital.

Hope you got it fixed, likely the 5th bow motor. There's a write up over changing the brushes in the motor.
Never did my 04, I'd just help it when I couldnt lift by lifting in the center at the top inside of the rear window while holding the brake and pushing the button.... not an ez task to do but it helps the weak motor to keep it from burning up and the top was completely functional.
I can imagine the motor being damaged or a circuit breaker or fuse blowing for trying it when It's not moving. The owners manual and fsm can check fuses. I never blew any.
