Oil Consumption on the '06?
I know that this isn't the correct forum, and I've posted there as well, but I was reading about oil consumption on the 2006 300hp REV-UP motor. I'd hate to buy one that has this terminal problem.
I called my local Nissan dealer and they had little information. They ran the VIN for me and there were no recalls that were left outstanding, but all that means that the vehicle has had any/all recalls to date. Nothing specific about the engine.
I have the VIN:
JN1AZ36A56M453014
Even if I check it before I drive it off the lot (CarMax), I wouldn't know if there is an oil consumption for at least 1K miles. Then what would I do??

I just wouldn't buy an 06 with a manual transmission because of that issue.
If you do anyway, see what the 5 day carmax return policy really is, then go on a long road trip and check for oil consumption before the 5 days are up.
I guess those cars are more expensive where you are, as the price I'm seeing on that VIN is about what I paid for a 2007 Roadster a year ago, and I thought I paid too much.

There are plenty of people without the oil burning issues, but I'd steer clear of an 06 unless you really know the history of the car.
Also, be aware of the slave cylinder issue present in the 07 and up manual 350z.

Ryan, good thing you did this. I have a 2006 and my VIN number starts out JUST LIKE yours, I thought you had my VIN number. The engine made in Cali?
Down to business now, we 2006-350z DON't have anything on the Corporations book for recalls? Call them get a case number started today. I didn't think I had this problem but my insurance sent a private inspector out to look at my car.
My car wouldn't accelerate properly uphill, then it would go into "spin cycle" a high rev sound like it's stuck and dart out real fast, and the last thing there was a thumping noise when decelerating. Oh I almost forgot to mention that my engine light came on. I have under 60,000 miles.
There is a problem with the engine and transmission on this car. That is what the inspector found with the codes taken from my car. My car is stock.
When you call the corporation, they already know about this problem because the man on the phone mentioned it to me.
If you go to:
http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/
You will see all the "service bulletins" on any Nissan car. I couldn't believe that the 2006-350z DIDN'T have any recalls! When it's over 300 owners here with the same problem. But the 370z have recalls?
I think if people start calling the Corporation to get a case number. This will open their eyes to our problem. Maybe, we can start getting some

I've made a few road trips to Oceanside and Las Vegas in this car and a daily driver for about a month. About 2K miles so far. Oil was clean and (if I remember correctly) was between the L and H marks on the stick. Oil has started to show some use, but is still halfway between the L and H marks on the stick. I'm not burning oil. At least not yet...

I have one. It is no big deal. I just add a quart of oil every six months. If you can't handle buying oil, or checking your fluids twice a year, you shouldn't be owning a Z.

Slyguy_38 go the tech part of this form and look at the TB messages they have pertaining high oil consumptions and failed emissions. The one thing that I noticed is that it has to be documented by the dealership.
Good luck
Make a complaint through this website:

It's the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which will look into all the complaints and tell Nissan that there is a problem that is a SAFETY VIOLATION, so fix it.

Just took it in for an oil change recently. Checked the oil beforehand. Down over a quart. It IS an oil burner. Oh well, I'll keep an eye on the level. Love this car tho...

On the dipstick, from half way between "L" and "F" all the way to the "L". Not sure how much oil that was. I'd driven about 3,500 miles. I'll check every 1K miles and again just before the oil is changed again...
