Default 2004 Roadster with Tire Feathering?

My roadster comes in March 12th. I was wondering how many of you current roadster owners are having the tire feathering issue. Please respond. I need to know if I should prepare myself for this. Thanks.

From what I can find the "feathering issue" has been fixed. Problem is "most" of us with the '04's don't have enough milage to know for certain. I'm up to @1500, but I've only had it since October & she's been garaged for the winter. Check on the Coupe forum, there's a post on it.

Think of it this way...if Nissan has not changed anything for 2004 concerning the suspension...why would you think the 2004s should be fixed?

Just give the 04s some mileage...

I have 6,500 miles & I don't see anything yet. I'll keep you posted if that changes.

I have an '04 SS Roadster and I just had my wheels replaced for the feathering. They said they fixed the Toe. I had about 5000 miles on my car when I started noticing the sound/vibration from the tires. I hope they actually fixed it because I don't believe a thing those guys tell me.

Thanks to jjgdyr...So far he has the remedy. In my opinion. The Greater Cleveland Auto Show is this week-end and I'll be asking questions on this issue. If I get any up-date answers I'll report back. The guys who repalced their tires I hope Nissan picked up the tab!

Just replaced 17" that came on the car with 18" wheels/tires @ 6000 miles (had mine since 8/03). No feathering/cupping on the old tires. Nissan has changed one thing, they're supposed to check alignment items before they go on sale, but some are still sliding through.
I went ahead & realigned & rebalanced when I switched wheels, just in case.

Okay.. call me a novice (probably because I am), but can someone please explain what the "feathering issue" is.
Please refrain from using the words newbie, idiot, or moron in your explination. Thanks!

Simply put, it's where the inside edges of the tires are wearing faster than the rest of the tire. The '03 Z's are notorious for this, but there seems to be some debate if the 04's are affected. I only have 1200 miles on mine so I can't be of any help there.

2,500 miles on my baby, and no issue that I've noticed yet, but I'm very paranoid about it just the same.

I had heard that '04's made after 11/03 were fixed for the feathering issue. Also heard that ALL '04 models were fixed.

I have no clue whom to believe, but my gut sinks when I see other '04 owners say they have the issue.

Incidentally, I didn't know about the issue when I bought my baby, and while I was taking delivery after signing all my paperwork, some enraged guy with an '03 with this issue comes up to my and my new car on the lot and starts cussing about the issue. The manager had to call the police to get him to leave.

Not a good way to start my relationship with my Z. Someone give me some good news on the feathering issue for '04's, PLEASE!

Would the tire feathering problem cause the tires to seem much louder than normal @ 30 mph and up?

I noticed that the noise has gotten much worse over the past 1000 miles. I now have almost 9000 miles on my roadster.

My tires are starting to feather. However, it doesn't make any noise. Will nissan replace the tires even though there is no noise?

Is there a fix to this problem ? I mean once they replace the tires, will it happen again ? (OR it is an issue that can be fixed so that one do not have to change the tires at every 10k)
Thanks

6500 miles on my o4 roadster and the tires were noisy. Took the car to a tire dealer and he said I had tire feathering. Made an appointment with nissan and they rotated the front tires ( they took them off the rim and switched sides) and they also said they changed the alignment. Still have the same loud noise and nissan says to give it about 1000 more miles and the tires will even out and the noise will disappear. I have a feeling I will be back at nissan to replace my tires in 1000 miles

Default Dang it . . .

I was to the dealer yesterday (3/13) & the tech informed me that I have the beginnings of the blasted tire feathering on my baby. I've only got 1900 on it! Will be taking it in for the alignment as soon as I can.

Ronnie,

They told me the same thing, but didn't tell me to wait 1000 miles. I went back in about 2 weeks and got the tires replaced. Noise/vibration all gone.
