Default Front License Plate

I know some folks have been having problems with the front plate on their Z's. (here in CA we HAVE to have a front plate) Rather than drill into your bumber or put the grill adapter kit that drills into your grill, I found a great alternative. It's from Steve Millen Sportparts, Inc. and it requires no drilling of any kind. It's simplay a bolt that screws into the toe hook in the front of your Z. From there, it has another plate that screws into the end of the bolt which is where you mount your plate. I got mine from Universal Nissan the day they arrived, but, here is the direct # of the company. 714-540-5566. www.stillen.com. If you see in the middle of the pic., that is the bolt that screws into your toe hook, dead in the center of the grill!!

strictly Z has the same thing for $50.00.

I'll go plate-less until I get ticketed. I see so many high end cars without front plates it's ridiculous.

I've mentioned this in other threads but it bears repeating. The reason the 'Zee-Bracket' doesn't use the tow hook recepticle is that in the event of a front end collision, anything that is in the recepticle might get jammed in there making it difficult to tow your car without further damage. The choice however, is yours

I used a Zee-Bracket to mount the front plate on my 2004 roadster without drilling the bumper -- well made and very sturdy. For details, see www.cliffshade.com/350zr/issues.asp#zee-bracket

In a few days, I'll be installing a chrome Stillen mesh grille and expect to run into some challenges that my Dremel tool will probably end up solving.

Anyone have any suggestions for mounting the grille while keeping the Zee-bracket?

TIA.

Jeremy

Very nice DIY on the 'Zee-Bracket'.....great link Think you are right about the dremmel and the mesh grill...shouldn't take much of a mod for the spacers to fit through...would love to see a pic after the install

Thanks for the support

Jeremy...I'll be looking close up at the Stillen mesh grill today and will have some ideas for you later this evening...I think I know a better way to do this

I got a fix-it ticket for not having front license plate while my Z sat infront of a local Home Depot parking lot. Now I have the Zee Bracket and it's great! Very sturdy and flush with the bumper so it doesn't look "stuck out" like the Strictly Z or the above Stillen design. Small pic of my car from the front's attached.

For larger pix, go here:
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=53502

That Stillen one looks like it has different type back plate than the strictly Z one. It's thinner and also top/bottom ends are angled for some reason.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. My bad...

Thanks Pat, I'll look forward to the tips. The grille should arrive late next week.

OK Jeremy...I looked very closely at the grill yesterday afternoon...even talked with the Stillen folks about it and using the 'Zee-Bracket with it...here's what I found out...

If you keep the OEM grill and atatch the 'Zee-Bracket' as you normally would, you might have to slightly modify the Stillen grill where the spacers fit through the holes in the grill (if they don't line up exactly...if they do line up no modification will be necessary)

If you remove the OEM plastic grill before you install the Stillen Street Scene grill, you can attach the 'Zee-Bracket' directly to the Stillen grill by placing the back plate on the inside of the grill and the center 3/4" square plate on the outside of the grill. I would also suggest that, if you do this, you put a small piece of rubber backing on the two surfaces that come in contact with the grill. I think this will make a better grip and at the same time won't scratch the grill.

Let me know if you have any questions when the grill arrives and please send pics after the install and let me know how it worked for you.

Question

I fortunately live in Kentucky. We have no front plates. I think they greatly destroy the look of a Z. GREATLY!

However, I'm curious. If you don't put a plate on the front, what do you think are the chances of getting ticketed for it? It seems remote (unless you get stopped for some other reason). And how much is the ticket?

Like I said, I'm just curious.

It varies from state to state...some states enforce the law to the letter...others, like California, seem to be more lenient...meaning you might not get pulled over for it but if they pull you over for something else they will probably tack it on...Local PDs are getting more hardnosed about this in CA due to the influx of Corner cameras..like Sho said, he was ticketed just for not having a front plate in a parking lot
