Default found out why top makes "pak" sound or doesnt fully close

i started a thread a while back stating that my top sometimes has a loud snap sound before latching on. some had replied that it was normal, so i didnt follow up on it.

my original post

last week, the rear of my top wouldnt close the last 2 inches where it touches the tonneau cover. i got out and was able to force it closed.

i took my car in to the service and they discovered that the rear strap was getting caught on one of the struts.

so when it made that snapping noise, the strap would get caught on the strut, and then break loose and snap down on the tonneau cover locking mechanism.

when it stopped 2 inches before closing, it was snagged and didnt break free.

anyways, my dealer is going to change the top and my mechanism. they have to special order the part though.

hope this thread is able to help someone else having the same problem.

edit: oh, if yours makes the same sound, try looking at the straps on the side of the rear window. chances are that there is a section that is slightly frayed.

it's the straps that caused the "pak" sound? my always made that sound, i just thought it was normal. I use that sound to know when to let go of the button...

not the straps exactly. the straps are getting snagged on the struts and then after a bit, it slips off and the tops snaps down and the pak sound is the latch of the soft top hitting the catch latch in the tonneau cover. kind of like a slingshot.... sort of.

anyways, that is what is happening with mine.
