Default Changing the boards around a bit.

OK I've spent a little time going through the boards and decided some stuff needed to be added, changed or moved around..

Mainly due to the size or evolution of the website the data gets harder to sift through and at the same time gets harder to maintain.

So please be patient as things get moved around. Also at the same time watch the forums because some of them are being changed.
The biggest ones changed so far are the Engine / Drivetrain / Forced Induction and the Vendor Classifieds

As the data gradually gets moved you will start to see the benifits of doing this.

Also because the data is getting moved around and new boards are being added I see the need for new moderators or people that can participate in the boards so if your one of those people please PM me.

Also FYI I'm in the process of doing some major upgrades to the site.. Forums to be upgraded to VB3, New classified system, Members Rides and more.. Right now I'm waiting on an extra hard drive to show up so all this can be implemented..

-------------------------
Now in rant mode..
I spent nearly half the day moving things around and one of the things that annoyed me the most has got to be the Sigs..
It really makes reading through the data a Pita especially when someone's sig is an image 700x285 and about every other post on the topic..

I know having sigs gives meaning or sets everyone apart but you know what so does avatars and honestly I thing some sigs are way out of control..
--------------------------

If anyone has any Feedback and Suggestions Please post them or pm me with them. They do matter

I don't know what it requires but I know the www.300zxclub.com forum seems to automatically not put in the sig if you have posted on that thread before, here you have to count on the member to uncheck the sig.

yeah, there is a hack that will only have the sig show up once per thread. you should get that.

just limit the size of any pic on the sig, let's say 500kb and 600pixels x 200pixels, or something like that.

just make sure that the mods in the forums catch the big sigs, let's say if the sig is too big, then just tell the member to resize it or remove it. Give a warning at first, if they don't comply, then we have it removed.

how would we go about all the newbie questions!? I mean, i know we were all there once, but now there is so much information on the boards I can't stand all the same ones referring to best this best that, as one of our vendors was saying already in another thread.....

we need to maybe get a newbie sections and have some basic rules posted up in there, alont with search funtions and explainging that the best exhaust, the loudest exhaust has been asked before etc...

also, post ZLands awesomepost regaurding modding your Z... or was it brickyardrat!? I am confused....

this way, they have a forum to post new members and hi and welcome etc... and not have all those threads in the general section....

EDIT: just saw the section along with Zlands post! Hey atleast we think alike! LOL!

OK so I think I went nuts!!!

I decided to change more things around.
It's still not done but it will make finding information a whole lot easier..

The main purpose of re-doing the layout is so you can access the data easier, better than before. Its kind of give and take though some people will like it while others wont.

Before you start to judge play around with the current forum layout for about 20-30min you'll see the posibilites..

Anyway, its late I'm tired and have to get up early..

And once again feel free to PM me with feedback or post is in the Feedback and Suggestions forum

That is exactly what I posted a couple weeks back:

Also, I would be willing to moderate any forum.

You know yours is 613x200 right? I think even that is too big. I like the standard banner size of 468x60 as a sig limit or text only. I know some people like to show off their artistic abilities or their car, but they can make a website to do that and post a link.

As far as the sig pics go, I agree that some of them... while looking really nice, are just too damn big!

On most of the other forums I frequent, they have sig rules like:
Image:
- No taller than 150-pixels
- No wider than 600-pixels
- No more than 20kb
- One image only
- Please keep images appropriate for the workplace--meaning, no nudity, lewd pictures (sexually suggestive), racism, offensive language, illegal acts, etc. If you are unsure, PM me and ASK!

Text:
- All the rules above apply to text as well
- No more than the equivalent of 4 lines tall of normal text size
This all helps with thread load times as well... if you're not having to load someones 500k sig, 15 times per page.

Keep up the good work, Kyle!

They have that on s2ki. Seems like a rather good idea... maybe the admin there might be of some help.

Kyle, just make your changes and we'll let you know what we think, I'm sure of that. So far it looks pretty good. And yes I'd limit the sig size some are massive.
