Vietnamese too.
My user name sort of give my nationality away... Grew up in Chico, CA, home of 5 Vietnamese people. Actually, there's many more now, but in the 80's there weren't many. I can understand about 40% of the language, but can't speak it at all, even if my life depended on it. I've taught myself to read some, but I find the language very hard to re-learn without practicing it more often. I have very few Vietnamese friends, and we only speak english to each other. All of them are nearly fluent, but have since given up on teaching me the language since I can't take part in in-depth conversations.
Vietnamese food is still my favorite, but I basically insist on home cooked meals from my mother and other relatives. All that MSG in restaurant food (especially pho) give headaches.
In any case, I thought I'd attach one of my favorite pictures from my trip there two years ago. I love living in CA, but there is certainly something beautiful and inviting about Vietnam. I will visit again, no doubt about it!

Nguyen...Yep, tough name for a non-vietnamese to figure out. I considered changing it at one time in my life, since there are millions of nguyens out there. I'm going to spare my child, and probably give him another last name. I'm thinking... "Winsfield".
On another note, my wife took on my last name. She's caucasian, mostly of English descent. I told her to keep her last name, but she took up Nguyen anyway...and so the punishment continues....

I always thought Nguyen was pronounced like "win." I realize its about as common as Smith or Johnson, but it was my mother's maiden name. Perhaps I'm related to some of you.
BTW - No dog here, but I have tried shark.
