nominal power handling vs. peak power handling vs. rms power
ok guys,
i am confused with all this terminology and searched the internet and am even more confused.
my future set up will have front speakers that have 75W nominal power and a peak of 300W...this will be powered by a 300W 2 channel JL amp (i believe 150Wx2)
my sub has a nominal power of 1000W with a peak of 3000W...this will be powered by a 500W amp...will this be enough juice for the sub?
i believe long ago in my physics class that rms was equal to peak divided by 1.4 (or sqrt of 2).
so will 150W of power to my front speaker be too much....i'm very rusty in physics right now.
thanks

Zenvy,
What kind of sub? I always guess that rms is considered to be "nominal" or close to it.
Are you doing the installation yourself? What size(gauge) are you running the power wire?
Tony

the install is from a local shop and he'll be using monster cables but i don't know what guage (interlink201 i think 2 or 4 channel...probably 2 channel for my front speakers; as far as the type of cables for the sub i have no clue). i'm assuming these are also important variables in this exciting but complicated arena called car audio?
thanks
