Miscalculated my box
Guys,
Freaking I miscalculated (partially) my box for the stock location. Origingally, my fiberglass box was going to have 6.5" mounting depth. I ordered a Diamound Audio Mk2 that needed 6.18" depth.
I got greedy after testing for the fitment and created a ring to raise it. The ring is 1/4", which I used 2 to get a total of "1/2" more.
Now I am done with the box and tested for the fitment. I have not received my sub yet (tomorrow though), but know i won't be able to fit it through.
Guess I have to use a router to bring it back to the original height, and keep the outer part of the ring so my sub can sit "flush" now.
What a pain. I should have tested the fitment when I put on the rings (too confident), not i am paying for it
.
Here are the pictures.

tractng,
I feel your pain man...
I have had a little trial and error with my sub box and kap 6.1's lately too.
I don't have a height clearance problem with my sub box because of the angle at the front, but I do need to clip the (rear right lower corner) a little to get it to fit behind the grill. I too was like son-of-a-biatch this weekend!!
tranctng,
Looking at your pics, I can't invision how your top front edge is clearing the OEM grill?? And I assume you left enough clearance for the sub cone to move freely when it hits really hard. It's not going to hit the top of the compartment is it? I ask because it seems you've left little room for speaker movement.

Quick,
The front fits well and I left about 2 inches for the sub movement.
I read your thread about the kappa for the fronts. In order to fit the grille back normally, you will need to sand the interior part of the grill.
I wasted 3 grills to get it right. I oversanded the grilles and it went through. It was around 14 bucks.
Use the stock speaker as spacer and slide your kappa about 3-4 mm over and it should not contact the windows.

Can you post a pic or two of how it looks in the stock location with the sub? I'm just curious how well it turned out because I've been trying to get my demensions right for a looooong time now for the factory location box. I have a Rockford Fosgate DVC 10" and may end up just paying someone to make a box for me. Any pics you could post of the installed box/sub would be cool. Thanks.
ZManInNY,
Here is the box. Let me know if you need help.
It has 6.5 inch mounting depth and about .84 cubic ft. Fit nicely inside without even touching the front grille.

I was talking to my installer today and he said that putting a box in the stock location is not as good as having it in the trunk. Apparently as Zquiksilver was saying, the woofer bangs the top of the compartment when it hits really hard. Not only that, the amount of room above the woofer also affects sound because there is no good surface for the sound to bounce off. I also have a roadster so he doesn't want to get into ripping into there. We were thinking that there is probably something back there providing structual integrity.
ZManInNY,
I was thinking of making the box so the sub fires forward, but could not come up with the correct angle. So hard to fit a good size sub.
The sound is good. When I put it in the trunk, the sound is way better. It depends on what you want. I prefer stealth for now.

For Roadster, this is the only way we can do to have sub. Dont' forget to dynamat the entire area before you put that box in or it will rattle the whole back seat area.
If you have good dynamat, you can crank up the sub to 90% capacity without any distortion. I tried on mine already.
