Default Boston Pro series

Does anyone know of any good sites to buy Boston Pro Series 6.5 components, boston SL95 3-way 6x9 & boston 5.25 coaxials. I tried doing a search on google and only found like 2 sites selling them but there overpriced.

I've just purchased two pairs of 6.5 pro's from ebay. $309 per pair brand new. Various second had ones also available.

I'm still after some boston acoustics 10.5lf subs, so if anyone knows of anywhere still selling these, please let me know.

Boston have one dealer here in the UK. They charge what they like.

A pair of Z6's for example are exactly £1000, thats about $1900, a PAIR!

Got a JL Audio 1000/1 for my subs, again £1000 each here!
A JL Audio 450/4 is £800 ( about $1550 ).

We use ebay a lot, saves us a small fortune.

With the $/£ exchange rate what it is at the moment, lots of us UK chaps are importing stuff like crazy. Z stuff costs a fortune here, like most things do.

Don't buy online! Most online retailers are not authorized which could mean that you have no warranty.

That's a fair point to make. We realise that is the case with getting stuff from ebay & we will no doubt get caught out now and again when stuff goes wrong. The price difference is just so vast that its worth taking the risk we feel.

It's not just ebay we buy from, we use courtesy nissan, lee auto, stillen etc.

No doubt all my stuff will go bang tommorrow now i've said that

My opinion is who cares about buying online .. if you're careful / use your CC or whatever to protect you, you're ok.

Plus most companies don't warranty anything not installed by auth'd shop ..

Boston doesn't athorize the sale of any of their products online. The 6.5s have been updated massively and are now the Pro60s. The 5.5s are the Pro50s and I highly recommend getting the newer ones. I've got 2 sets of 6.5s and one set of 5.5s sitting around (along with a set of Reference Z6s) and the new Pro60s are way more detailed then the older 6.5s.

With that being said, here's a really cheap place to buy Boston products online. The only thing they don't carry are the Boston subs. I have no idea how their customer service is (I buy my Bostons at a local dealer).

LS350,

I've had the 6.5s for a number of years and could not be happier with them. But it's time to replace them and was looking at the new pros. How would you compare the new pros with the Z6s?

Z6s are probably the most detailed speaker I've ever heard. I'm truely blown away by how detailed they are. They reproduce everything extremely acurately. Don't get me wrong, the old 6.5s were acurate, more so then many, and the new Pro60s are very acurate as well, but the Z6s seriously take it to the next level.

The other amazing thing about the Z6s is how well their off-axis response is. The Pro series use to be some of the best but the new Z6s take off-axis response up to that of Rainbow Reference line. This means you can put them in your doors and still get great results.

It's really hard to explain how well the Z6s do but I know everyone at the Meca/Iasca World Unified finals couldn't believe how great my system sounded, especially considering I was there with only one amp, one sub, and one set of component speakers in a class that allows kicks, custom doors, etc... The best thing to do is to listen to both but IMO it's worth the extra $300 to go up to the Z6s.

On that note, I am going to pick up a set of the new Pro60s just because I've owned a set of every series Pros since they first came out - lol - and I can always retire an older set.

LS350Z & 2 low Z, well I was deciding between Bostons, Focal or Diamond Hex, I scratched the DA Hex off the list because I heard the company was having problem and didnt want to deal with them if they go out of business unless I found a great deal on them. Now its between boston or focal what do you think I should go with im looking for a speaker with nice clear highs & mids, I dont plan on putting subs in so they have to have some bass what speaker do you guys recommend. I'm looking to spend 500-600 on a great set of 6.5" components for front doors, 5.25" fillers for rear panels and 3-way 6x9' for the rear deck. I want the speaker to have alot better sound quality then the bose but not looking for competition quality dont need to go that crazy.

I also scratched MB Quarts off my list, my brother has them in his truck but they have no type of mids to them, there a bit too high pitched for me but they did sound great when he had subs in the truck.

I agree with you about the Quarts, they are a bit bright for my taste, I can't comment on the Focals becaust I haven't really heard, but I have heard they do rival with the Bostons.

Some have said that the Boston Pros (old ones, haven't heard the new ones yet) were lacking in mid bass, however in my experience they had plenty mid bass and very accurate. I have had them in both sealed pods and in the doors (not in the Z) and have had great success with both, maybe bit more midbass when they were in pods.

I could not have been happier with them. One set is 6 years old, have been in 3 cars, and have not one but two floods where they were completely submerged in water and they are still kickin. Granted not they way they did 6 years ago, but no distortion. I could sell you those!!

Can't go wrong with Bostons imho, but if you can compare with the Focals to see what suits your taste.

I find Focals have over boosted low- mids (With a massive spike in the 120-160hz range), bland mids (500-1000), and under developed highs. Their linearity is horrible, although their detail and clairty are on-par. I've yet to hear a set that has impressed me.

If you're looking at Bostons, I'd also look at CDT Audio and Rainbow.

Also, I wouldn't worry about rear speakers to start. Spend that money to upgrading the fronts to something way better. Front stage is imparitive to great sound and will pay off 100X more then rear speakers. If you have video and want surround sound, run some cheap coaxs and attenuate them way down.

I bought a 10.5 LF from that audiowarehouse place on e-bay and I'm just fine with it. It comes with a 1 year warranty through auiowarehouse and it is brand new. I had to do this though because the new G2/G5 subs have too much of a mounting depth to put them under the trunk floor.
Good luck

Audiowarehouse on ebay only seem to sell the 12.5lf's now, must have run out of 10's

I've managed to get a 10.5lf 4ohm from somewhere here in the UK. The only other one i can find here so far is a 10.5lf 2ohm, which I have not purchased yet. They have ONE left in stock.

These will be running off a JL Audio 1000/1, can i connect up a 4ohm & a 2ohm sub to this so that they work together equally?

Or am I best to keep searching for another 4ohm version to match the one I allready have?
