Default Programing New Valet Key

Had to get a new valet key. Service dept wants $70.00 to re-program the new key to the other keys in the set and the car. Is there anyway to do this myself without getting robbed by the stealership????

You posted this in 2 areas so I will too. LOL

I believe there is a way to do it with some weird combination with the ignition and the door key-hole but I realy don't remember what it was. It was not worth $70 bux though.

is that 70bucks for the key and reprograming cause that would be a deal, my friend who works for a locksmith said it would cost me (hook up) like 45- 55 for a key and the reprograming, if i had they key he could reprogram it for me for like 5 bucks or something. all u need is the machince but that daym thing is expensive

Yeah i figured it was some combination of holding your jaw in the right way and standing on one leg and definitely not worth the $70.00. Just need to find someone who may have done it themselves.

Thats JUST the programing of the key. If you don't know how or don't know someone who does and can do it for you for less, then the stealership has you over a barrel. How the hell long does it take to program a key??? Im guessing it would take 30 minutes to do the work and they must be charging some type of shop labor rate of 35-45.00 per hour???

hahah i dont think so, it prolly takes 5 mins but they hold your car for 30mins to charge you the labor rate.

my viper alarm broke cuz i dropped it in water, i had to buy a new remote. the remote cost well over $100 but luckily i knew someone at a stereo shop and sold me the remote for $55 and no charge for pragramming.. took them 2 mins...

Yeah well whatever amount of time $70.00 is definitely too much. I did read on a e-bay sellers site ( he actually had blank nissan keys) that it can be programed by auto locksmiths. Not sure if this is true but gonna give it a shot to see if that option is cheaper before i fork over $70.00 to the pukes at the stealership.

thanks to all who responded.

Adding a NATS key to the car can only be done at the dealership with consult-ii. You can program a remote with little hassle yourself but the key is a different story. It should only take a couple minutes for the dealership to do, so maybe you can talk them into a couple bux instead of flat hour rate. You will need to have all keys to the car at the time of reprogramming.
