Finally Got My Stereo Together
#3
I'm running the stock speakers off the alpine h/u, its good for 18W RMS on each channel which I am hoping is enough for my likings. I wanted to upgrade the headunit and decide on how i liked the sound before I bit the bullet and bought all new speakers and an amp for them

Cool. I'm thinking of running the rears off the HU. Right now I have all 4 6.5's on a 4-channel amp, but I want to upgrade to a higher watt 2-chn amp for the fronts only. My HU manual says that you will get a better sound quality from the RCA pre-outs if you turn the internal amp off and don't use the HU to directly power speakers, but I doubt it will affect the sound very much.

The BOSE is really not an improvement from the base stereo.LOL
They both suck pretty bad.
You might as well just replace your speakers and amplify them now. You won't be truly happy until you do...

I am thinking about getting that box from ebay and mounting the amp behind the drivers seat in that empty compartment. I would also be interested to know about how much the install runs you and how much rattle you get without dynomat.

Hype, I plan on mounting the amp in the same location as yourself. I will let you know how it turns out. Also I cant remember his name but the seller of those boxes on e-bay is a great seller, shipped the same day I ordered it (today). I have thought about dynamatting the car just because of all the road noise that comes from the hatch but I dont want to strip the interior bare bones. Hopefully no rattles (crossing fingers)
Santacruz, I'd love to upgrade the interior speakers but then I might not be able to get my true duals (about the same cost)

Hey guys. Something to keep in mind, your gas tank is directly underneath that compartment behind the drivers seat. I wouldn't screw anything down to the metal there. I installed my amps there by building an mdf floor anchored to the sides and the back. Good luck and show us some pix!

I just put an amp rack in the space behind the drivers seat, if you fit the beauty panel on top well enough you don't need to anchor the mdf it all stays pretty snug in there. Built it and the box myself, looks like the one on ebay except they are both covered in vinyl. If you are handy at all i would say do it yourself, I built the box and the amp rack for $52.45, including the MDF (one sheet is plenty, still have half leftover), vinyl, liquid nails, spray adhesive, speaker wire, and just ripped apart an old pillow for the polyfill . Sounds good, no rattles if you get a snug fit with the box. Anyway good choice twizted should sound great once you get it installed, i have some cheapo Kenwood subs and Fosgate 200.1 Amp in mine and it sounds great. Going to upgrade eventually but going to get infinity fronts and rears before i upgrade amp and sub. Keep us posted!!

The Install is done, the 10w6v2 fit inside the ebay box with no issues at all, I cut out a piece of mdf 16" x 20" to mount the amp behind the drivers seat, I did not need to secure it with anything it stays in place on its own.
At first I thought I wanted to now get new Interior speakers because it didnt sound too good with the head unit upgrade but I really started to dig into the features of my Alpine unit and found that after some adjustments it sounds just fine to me!
I wouls have to say the stereo sounds 100 times better for about a thousand bucks, no complaints here!
I'll post some pics if I get the chance this weekend
