Default anyone have a free air sub in stock location?

just wondering if anyone had done it. i don't really pump my stereo that loud but i would like a little bit more in the low tone range. a lot of people say that it will sound bad but what about a image dynamics free air sub and lots of dynomat extreme? i also read that the stock bose bracket was too big for the ID 10" sub.

has anyone done anything like this that can offer some guidance? anyone mounted a 10" in the stock location? what about the bose sub? is it any good?

any input will be greatly apperciated!

Ok...the stock sub is not a true 10" sub according to my installer.
So you may have some problems there. If you want to maintain a stock look you might want to take a look at the Infinity Basslink. It's a self-amplified fully enclosed sub system. I'm pretty sure you could fit one in your stock sub location (providing that you take off the mounting plate).

ok, i'm now torn between the basslink, bazooka tube and the new clarion self-amplified.

i would try to fit the bass link in the stock area with some dynomat.

the bazooka can just sit in the trunk

the calrions are apparently small enough to fit under the seats.

what do you guys think? which way would you go? right now, the bazooka is kinda at the top of the list simply because it would be so easy to do with the brackets that come with it.

blose is just that, it blose. mofoz has a JL sub in that location. mounting a 10 to that bracket is not particularly complicated, just have to watch subs with big depth requirements. that space, because it sits at an angle is not as deep as it may seem. the blose sub is about one inch deep and flat across the back. not a traditional speaker by any means. basslink is the easy solution, but if you're looking for is real sound quality you may want to explore your options a bit further. If anyone in your area has any of these in their Z, of course try to get some seat time in their ride. Otherwise, go check them out at an audio shop or something. As far as Bazooka, I used to have one back in the day. Again, ease of install is a plus and it would probably sound OK, but that ease of install also makes it very easy to steal. If it were me, I would check out the basslink. sounds like it may meet your needs nicely if it gives you the level of sound quality you're looking for. Good luck!

I have the infinity basslink, sounds great its actually too loud, I have to turn the bass down on it when the windows are up, I'll take some pictures this weekend when I have time. Make sure whoever installs it doesn't drill into the gas tank or any lines, the people that installed it in mine did just that, didn't have my car for two weeks while I was waiting for nissan to get a new gas tank in.

damn, they drilled into the gas tank? what a bunch of fools. did you get the install for free?

i think i'm sold on the basslink. i'm gonna install it myself so let me just review what i'm gonna need:

- the basslink...duh
- amp wire kit?
- lots of dynomat?

has anyone just bolted one to the trunk somewhere? maybe two of them on the driver's side of the strut brace facing towards the back of the car?

wow, that sucks. how did you find out they'd done that? did they tell you or did you only figure it out after they delivered the car to you?

the basslink...duh
- amp wire kit? check that this isn't included with the basslink
- lots of dynomat? if it were me, i'd check to see how it sounds once installed before you do that. you may find that the rattles, if any don't merit spending the $$$ on dynamat.

i don't know if the basslink accepts speaker-level input. if not, you'll need an input converter. get it from these guys:
davidnavone.com
they're the best in the business.
good luck!

oh, sorry, i assumed you still had the factory stereo in your car. no, if you have an aftermarket, no need for a converter of any kind. what does the rest of your system look like?

just the avic-n1 with a bunch of add-ons like the reverse cam (troublesome), dvd-changer, cd-changer, xm-tuner, and soon, tv tuner.

i wanna get the basslink next, then possibly some components. i never crank my music that loud so i'm not gonna splurge on a really nice system. just want a little more in the low tone region and maybe some sharper mids and highs down the road.

could you imagine a z rolling down the street blasting blues traveler, steve miller band, and tom petty with huge thumping subs? haha

well, i have a seperate sub system and listen to those bands. you should hear blues traveler with an extremely accurate sub capable of reproducing notes you never even knew were in your music. it's magic, believe me. most people that listen to that stuff with big subs tend to crank up the bass so it sounds bad, but properly tuned the sound is fantastic. Good luck with your install!

You say the reverse camera is troublesome. hmmm, I was thinking of doing this with my AVIC-N1.

I didn't have problems right away, it developed over time I was throwing cel lights, I thought it was my jwt popcharger until my gas mileage started sucking and my gas gauge started going crazy, then I went to the dealership and found out that they had drilled into my gas tank, I didn't pay a dime for it, the place that installed it, Tweeter in Newark, payed for everything, Porter Nissan in Newark was very accomidating, only complaint I have is that it took well over a week to get a gas tank from Nissan, I didn't have my car for two whole weeks.

I have a 10" Pioneer free air sub in the stock location. I dynamatted the whole enclosure and it sounds great powered through a 500 watt Alpine amp.

Shoot, if I was going to be in town I'd tell you to drive on down and we'd put the basslink in at my house (warm garage) since I'm wating to do the same thing. I'll be leaving in the middle of January for about 5 to 6 weeks so that kind of crimps that unless you're waiting.
