Default $200 just to bypass BOSE?

I just went into a stereo shop today to see about getting a new headunit. On top of the headunit's price and the $50 dash kit/harness, I was also quoted to be charged $150 to bypass factory amps and $50 for a Bose adapter. I told them I wanted to use my factory speakers for now but was also told that the sub would not work and the sound from the navigation wouldn't either.

Is this something I could easily do on my own? What's a BOSE adapter? Can I just pull out my bose headunit and swap it just like any other headunit in a regular car except that I'll lose navigation voice? Or is this $200 labor charge because you can't just simply swap out a headunit otherwise the Bose speakers will stop working.

Thanks!

I dont really know much about the bose system so I cant comment there but I will say that sounds unreasonable. I would go somewhere else.

Yeah... it does... and they said that if I bring my own headunit (and not buy there's) that it'll cost an extra $50 in labor.

When I used to have a camaro with a bose system in it, the stereo shop tried to tell me the same thing. I never ended up replacing the headunit though so I can't tell you if it's legit or not, but I have heard the same thing.

Well, I called up Crutchfield and they told me that their wiring harness adapts straight into the BOSE setup. The only thing I'll lose is the voice on the nav -- which is OK!

I guess the shop had never dealt with a 350Z with Bose & Nav and bumped up the labor cost anticipating a more difficult install. But I'm gonna just do it on my own with Crutchfield's harness & install kit. It'll all work with the factory amp, sub, and speakers.

Great to hear. Plenty of pics and walkthroughs on various 350Z sites to help you with the install along with the guide Crutchfield will send you. The headunit is very simple. Hardest part is connecting the wiring harness to the headunit harness. I would recommend soldering the connections.

I replaced my Bose and didnt use any adapter or anything and my stock speakers still worked fine. Cant tell you anything about the nav voice because I didnt have the nav option in my Z though, I have aftermarket nav.

Or, they could be B.Sing you and just trying to take your money!

Frys tried to charge my dad 800 bucks to install a Clarion CD Player into my moms old Mercedes, as he SWORE it had a BOSE in it.

Mercedes use Becker systems. I did the install myself for free. No Bose mess, no super fancy installs, though it does have an amp, and I did have to runa long wire for the antenna, bu 800 bucks!?
