Ok so today i packed up my Alpine hda-5460 to ship it back as a return to cructchfield. Buying that unit seemed so practical and awesome at the time i bought it but it turned out to be a friggin nightmare. The reason the thing sucks so much is becasue the software it comes with is HORRIBLE.
1. Half the time you transfer or delete files from the hard drive they dont store or dont erase.
2. Making playlists takes FOREVER, just trying to find the song you want to hear out of 3,000+ is next to impossible, it takes like 5 minutes and you have to watch the road at the same time.
3. The transfer from the computer to the hard drive is only compatible to usb 1.1 so it takes FOREVER to transfer (again and then when youre done sometimes it doesnt even work).
I am just keeping my alpine cda-9825 and buying an ipod+KCA-420i to have the same effect but with portability as well as software ease. The only thing i will miss abou the HDA was the cool graphics it displayed on the screen.

I can sell you a brand new ipod with the 40g hd. I bought it for my girlfriend and she told me that she will never use it and wants me to sell it and give her the money! WTF! Anyways I was planning on doing the ipod setup in my car but I just dont feel like it. Plus I am going to be putting an xbox in soon so I will have a 250g hd to store songs on. PM me if you want it

well theres a guy in my fraternity that can get them for wholesale and i really only need a 15gb one. Im guessing you probably want at least $300 for your 40gb i can probably get the 15gb for around $100-150.
thanks for lookin out,

Just buy something that plays DVD's and use Audio DVD creator to burn 5GB discs with menus. I have like 500 albums (~8000 MP3's 192kbps) on ten discs and that's all I have to carry in my car.

Is that an auto-PC powering that stuff? Which model? I am looking at the auto-node, usually at http://www.autonode.com/, but the site appears to be down right now. Any info would be appreciated.
