Default About iPOD install

I have searched thru this forum 1,000's of times trying to find a link.

It was a link to a guy that integrated an iPOD to his factory G35C bose and had it mount in the ashtray. Does anyone have a link or way to contact him for that I have a few questions.

Or maybe you guys can help.

I want to build an iPOD dock in the cupholder and plan on molding the dock so it pops out like the factory beverage unit.

Is/are there any plugs that connect to the bottom of the iPOD and trasfer sound? and charge it???

Instead of using a car charger and a mini -> rca plug to the PAC unit I was hoping to have one plug on the ottom that would accomplish this.

I think what you are looking for is the Belkin iPod auto kit . As for the ashtray, you may be looking for the Tunedoc car holder .

That is kinda like what I have now. I was trying to get away from the FM modulator route and go straight from the iPOD to the deck via the PAC unit. But I am custom buliding a dock that replaces the cupholder and retracts and pops out for steath-a-bility(is that a word?)
SO for the astectic part of integration I was looking for a plug similar to that of the belkin that would connect the iPOD to the RCA's and charge it at the same time!

That is what the Belkin does. It has a single connector to the bottom of the iPod which charges it and also outputs audio. The part of the Belkin adapter that connects to the 12v receptacle is an audio out/amp. You will need a 1/8" plug to RCA converter, which is what I used to connect to my PAC audio adapter.

why not custom mount an ipod dock? that's my plan. it should plug right into both any ipod adaptor allowing it to charge and it has headphone output, so you can jack in a stereo mini > RCA adaptor and you have your audio out. you don't have to worry about plugging in all kindsa stuff and it looks pretty slick to have a drop-in port for your ipod. i saw it done in the ashtray of an A4. install looked sick. close the ashtray door and it disappears. i also have an A4, so i'm def. doing that with my audi. good luck with the install!

I recently finalized the iPod install to my new Sony headunit (with aux-in). Check out this cable Monster makes called the iCable. It's a 1/8th to RCA connector but designed for the iPod.

http://www.monstercable.com/computer...r.asp?pin=1731

Yes, a normal adapter from radio shack should suffice but I feel more comfortable with the sound quality from Monster's gold plated connectors.

I use the Belkin auto kit and a cigarette adapter extention cord from radio shack. Everything goes from the outlet in the back of the 350Z and tucks securely and stealthly under the center console. (I took the center console and dash apart to accomplish this.) The Belkin adapter is burried under the center console and the dock connector end which plugs into the iPod comes out right thru the stock 350Z cup holder so that all wires are hidden and clean. The Monster iCable is burred under the center console too and goes up into the dash to connect to my headunit.

Dude your Belkin cup idea looks both nice and functional.....but I am trying to obtain a factory look like it was an option.....while on the apple site I noticed that they will be releasing an Apple made integration kit to Nissan's Factory Radios(like the one's currently available for BMW and Benz)

I may wait til that comes out just to see if it compares in price to a PAC unit, a car charger and an addidtional dock.

By the looks of it, the apple adaptor would enable us to stow the iPOD in the armrest and use the radio's FF/REV, etc buttons to control it.

That would be awesome!!!!

Exactly, that's how the Apple 'adapter' works now for the current BMW and Volkswagon models equipted with the feature. The iPod is essentially out of sight with Apple's factory setup. I don't believe you can buy it as a kit right now for BMW/VW, but you can get it as a dealer installed option I believe.

I know what you mean though, about the factory look. I'm going to go at my Belkin adapter with some black Krylon Fusion spray paint to see if I can at least make it match a tad bit better. I really don't think that there'd be any other easy way to integrate it better into the car.

As of now, you can get an Alpine (CDA series) headunit and get the $99 iPod interface that Alpine makes. You can install the interface into your glovebox (box behind the passenger seat) and stowaway your iPod in there. That's the only other solution I can think of at the moment.

I got nav so that cubby isn't going to work.
They do sell the interface for BMW already. I just helped my friend put his in and that is what got the wheels turning.

I am going to mold a dock into the pop-out cup holder.

I'll pick one up on my way home and start modding today.

I'll see how it comes out and then i'll post some instructions!!!

Yeah, I'd appreciate that. I mean, I really don't use the cupholder in the car, which is why the Tunedok was perfect for me. But like you said, I would want something that I could hide and integrate perfectly like that. Plus, I have an iSkin for my 40gb (4th gen) iPod and I always have to take it out of the case before putting my iPod in the Tunedok. It'd be nice to have a mount that was adjustable to a certain degree so I could get the iPod mounted in it's case.

That's just out of the question and way too long for the 350Z cup holder.

I used an adapter from Panavise that is specifically made for the Z.

Here is the link to the part.

I also used a Portagrip 2000 also from Panavise, but you can use anything you want. The adapter has holes you can use to bolt on anything.
