Default JL 12W7 Cone Repair Estimates?

Whats up everyone? I'm down here in San Diego and i've got my hot hands on a 12W7 that my cousin owned and had in his H2. It seems someone threw something into the back and damadged the cone. The speaker is still kickin hard with a negligible affect on sound quality.

I just took the W7 to a certified JL dealer and they said they could trade in this damadged one for a new one with a 350 dollar price difference, and repairing it is something they just can't do. That's pretty ridiculous.

I was wondering if anyone knew a better solution to get this cone repaired so I can slap this puppy into my Z and not have to stare at a cracked cone all day long.

Thanks so much! I'll post pictures of the damage in a few minutes just gotta find my memory card reader.

Well you could recone it but thats prolly going to run you $200 or more so you might as well just switch it out for $350.

Thanks for the reponses all.

I took it to this audio shop down in Kentucky (seeing family on winter break) and handed over the 350 for a shiny new 12W7, with free shipping. UPS had me at 75 dollars to ship it with insurance when I checked it out, so i basically paid 275 for a new 12W7.

wo0t! Expect to see plenty more posts and questions on what amp and enclosure systems I should be considering. Once again thanks.

It's too late now but...Sail tape is a good repair option. It's sold at most boating stores and is super sticky and ultra lightweight. It's made to repair holes and tears in sails but is also excellent for repairing sub cones. A friend of mine cracked his cone a few months ago and sail tape was the first type of tape I saw so... WE TRIED IT! And it worked!! LOL
