Default Switching out stock bose 6disc touring model

I want to just change my head unit. To do this, I need to bypass the stock bose amp right??? Is this hard to do?

I would need to find a powerful head unit to power my speakers since I wont be able to use the Bose amp anymore....right?

btw: I already have an infiniti self powered basslink

Nope, you don't have to bypass anything. I ordered a Sony headunit off Crutchfield.com to replace my premium Bose 6 cd changer headunit and used the wiring harnesses they supply and all of my Bose speakers are still amplified with the factory amps and my subwoofer still works great as well.

good to know. How hard was the install? I want to get an mp3 headunit. Will it just be as clean of an installation as you described?

Also, I'm going to have an infiniti basslink connected. WIll that cause a problem?

Haha, well, if this looks clean to you, then yes, it's clean lol!!

But no, on a more serious note, it's quite easy to get it installed, if you don't have GPS. If you have GPS, then you have a bit more to remove before you can get the stock headunit out. But it was very straightforward. I'm sure the basslink would be perfectly fine and even easier to hook up to an aftermarket HU than it would be to the stock bose. Take a look at the headunit I got. Not a bad price ($250) from Crutchfield.com and they'll send you (for free) not only the double-din cash fit (that gives you the bottom pocket for storage as well) and also the wiring harness. Not a bad deal. But anyways, the headunit I got looks quite well and compliments the brushed aluminum finish of the 350Z interior. Might be worth taking a look.

damn, the unit is out of stock. Do you know of any other packages Crutchfield sells for the Z that will give you all the necessary stuff (double din, harness etc).
thanks

Hey there,

Sorry for not replying sooner.

Wow, they must have discontinued it soon after I got it, I literally just got it about 2 weeks ago. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GNvUe8r...ny%20CDXF7705X

Anything you order from Crutchfield.com will include the wiring harness, double din dash kit, instructions, etc. for free -- you just have to specify that it's for a 2003 Nissan 350Z w/ Bose, etc. They'll ask you all of that when ordering online and by phone.

Here's the next model up from the one I got, has red LEDs instead of blue, but here it is:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GNvUe8r...y+mp3+headunit

Surprisingly, I thought it sounds better than the stock headunit, most likely because of the 7 band equilizer built into Sony's headunit. I run on 'rock' mode and I listen to mostly alternative/pop/punk/techno/rock. And yes, this headunit/install kit works with all stock speakers, amps, and subs. And everything functions the same, if not better, than before.

Yes, it's one model up, I'd assume... it looks practically the same except it is $279 instead of $249.

Be careful matching up your new head unit with the bose system. You should really get a line output converter. The best one for the bose system is the Audiolink PowerDriver PD4. It will successfully do what your planning.

The subwoofer and amplifiers for the speakers and sub still work by replacing the factory bose headunit. As long as your sure to follow the Crutchfield instructions on powering the amp (using the wiring harness provided), you will still have a completely functional factory Bose subwoofer and amplified speakers -- no line output converter's necessary.

Haha, thanks, I love how I've randomly turned into a headunit swapping guru heh. I should get some money out of Crutchfield for these referrals

Oh, btw, they have people there 24/7 live on the phone to help you out. I was up at midnight installing it, and there was someone on the phone to help!

Hey man, I got my head unit in today. I noticed the instructions were very thorough. THey covered speaker wiring and such.

I only need to be concerned with the head unit swap right? I shouldnt have to worry about speaker wires and all that nonsense right? The other pages are just there for reference?

thanks!

Just wanted to post my response here...

No, ignore the other pages. Crutchfield includes install instructions for the speakers/subwoofer/amp/etc as well as how to install the headunit with all of their products specific to your vehicle. Simply follow the headunit process.

BTW -- Dissolved, would you mind shrinking your sig quite a bit?! It's huge!! Haha! Thanks :-p
