Bose Stereo Problems on Touring Z - Need Suggestions/Comments
Hi,
I have a 2004 Touring Z, 13,200 miles.
I play the stereo all the time and periodically, for no apparent reason, the left speakers (left front on the door and the rear head speaker above the sub) seems to cut out, not completely, but their volume and clarity is DRAMATICALLY reduced. Then it will come back... sometimes this problem will last for minutes, then resolve itself for days before coming back. It sounds like a loose connection.
The right side never has problems. I use the fader and balance and notice that it's pretty much the entire left side of speakers (minus the sub) going out. I havent' leaned in and checked that tiny tweeter at about wheel level, but when the left goes out, it gets really really quiet. Sometimes you can hear a crackling sound, but it's not the same type of sound you hear when the speaker is blown in my opinion. Because when the speakers work properly, as they often all do, the stereo sounds very good.
I know some people have complained about the Bose stereo clarity, etc., but I want to get this fixed, and under warranty, and with minimal invasion into the car (ie ripping off panels, etc. to see what the problem is). If it's a loose connection, can I access the point of contact easily? I don't really repair my car a lot here. I'd just like some suggestions or pieces of advice for moving forward here. With such a new car, having the stereo work perfectly 75% + of the time is not acceptable as having it work 100% of the time.
Thanks!.

Did you call Nissan Consumer Affairs and have a head unit preordered and sent to your dealership for prompt replacement? I just want this taken care of ASAP. Thanks.

I have an 04 touring. Can't say Ive had that problem but whenever I start my car and the engine is cold, theres this really annoying loud crackling/static noise busting out of all the speakers for about 10 seconds.

I bought my 04 Touring July 1, 04. I never noticed the problem until it started I think about 3 weeks or so ago, it's been VERY cold out and I drive my car everyday.

i have the same problem. but it went away for the time being.
as long as it's working "properly" i am ok with it. besides, when you take it into the dealership, it has to be malfunctioning
maybe i will take it in before warranty expires. good thing i am not into audio system.... just another money pit.

I took my Z to the local dealership earlier today, they looked at it, and ordered a new head unit. It seems thats its less of a hassle to replace the whole unit rather than spending the time and finding the cause of the problem.

Mantis that's great... I would hope and expect those kinds of results... I fear what others have mentioned, effectively not being able to reproducce an inconsistent problem with the stereo...it's on and off but hopefully we can get it fixed.

You know I have the same problem, but it only happends in CD mode and when I am going fast around corners (Left). Weird that it does not happen when I turn right? Just the left side, what happened, Nissan could not put a little more money in getting this right. We paid a good amount for the car and this happens. Well I went to the dealer and they ordered me a new radio and I just got it replaced and everything seems to be working good so far?

Well about a month ago I had the head unit replaced under warranty and the same problem is occurring. I think moreso now the cutting out happens on bumps and tight turns.
What should I do next aside from calling consumer affairs? Anyone have comments?
