Apple iPod integration
I was surfing the APPLE site today and I noticed that NISSAN will be offering a car kit for the iPod. Anyone know if this will be available in the 03 Z's?
More info please....
More info please....
Apple hasn't even let out any information about this yet.
As far as details, for the other kits (available from VW/BMW/etc) they are dealer-installed options that allow you to integrate your iPod with the factory headunit.
Any true audio enthusiast will vote against this option because most people like to upgrade speakers, add amps, add subwoofers, etc. and this is not possible with the factory headunit.

Do you simply need an RCA to get audio for the iPod? At any rate you you might want to check out discountcarstereo.com, (I think that's the right site) they have an aux input (AUXNISS) strictly for the 03 Bose system. (W/O Sat) This simply plugs in behind the Bose using the 12 pin connector. The audio is through the Bose without the need soldering into the cassette. This is what I'm using to get audio for my PS2.
I've read a few write-ups about the BMW, VW, and Alpine systems, and all have said that the Alpine system is the most user friendly of them all.
I have one of the Alpine headunits that actually controls the iPod (which is hidden in the glove compartment). Only problem is that its so much of a PITA tedious process to scan through the playlists and artists that I don't use it.
The only way the iPod is going to work well with the car is if you have a double-din unit (which Alpine does not currently sell right now%#@#$), or some type of custom system with a monitor.
So right now, nothing is the perfect simple solution.

so I was thinking last night....
There is a unit out now that lets you control the ipod through the honda cd changer input.
Are there adaptors that allow factory cd changers to be plugged into aftermarket head units?
For those of us who dont have alpine decks

Pioneer, Clarion, and Kenwood all have head units coming out this year that "control" the iPod, display song info on the display and charge the iPods. I played with all, and the new Alpines, at CES and all work the same. Navigation is slow on all but the lcd screens improve the experience somewhat. All are similar in price to the current Alpines and range in price from $300 to $2000. Each manufacturer seems to use the CD changer controls through an add-on module. I believe that Pioneer will support the last couple of years of their head units. Not sure what their interface is called, but it's similar to Alpines Ai-Net.
I have last years Alpine and can confirm what Spartan1510 wrote.

Attention current and future iPod owners: this deck can be your gateway to taking your iPod music collection on the road! This spring we’ll begin shipping a new Pioneer iPod Adapter, a small box that can hide under a seat. Once you connect this adapter to your iPod and also to your headunit, you can control your iPod through the headunit and even view album, artist, and other music info on its display.
