Default Will my Xbox overheat in the glovebox?

Hey guys, hows it goin? I just recently purchased a Farenheit screen to put in my Nav compartment (I have a Base model). I've attached my modified xbox to it and it's great; all the music I can store, ability to watch dvd's, picture/video viewing, and not to mention Xbox Games on a 7" monitor. I just have one concern:

My Xbox is in the glovebox, will it overheat in there? Is it o.k. for extended use? I was thinking I could take the cover off the top of the xbox just to help it get more ventilation. But have any of you with modded xboxes (I have a 120GB HD) or even unmodded xboxes had problems with overheating in the glovebox? Thanks.

good question.

im sure it gets hot in there, but it does take it a while to heat up. how long do you leave it running? it would be fairly easy to drill a hole in the back of the glove box and fit it with a small fan. taking off the top of the xbox would be a good first step.

unless you going to play for many hours then you will need to worry about heat.

Just an update guys, I didn't want to worry about the heat so I went to best buy yesterday and picked up a 4" Green LED fan. I drilled holes into the glove box door and mounted the fan on the inside of the door. The fan is whisper quiet and the green glow coming from the fan looks pretty trick. I'll post pics tonight. I also bought a wireless remote so I can turn on/off the xbox without opening the glove. I figure the only time I'm actually going to need access to the xbox is when I play a dvd on long trips.

Here's some pics guys:

Comments/suggestions? Thanks for the help everyone.

Yea, I modded it myself, I used the Xecuter 2.3b Lite Modchip. I did a ton of reading to mod my box. But it was all worth it in the end.

Hey, I have a modded XBOX with as well, a Xecuter 3. What remote lets you power on the XBOX on/off?

I got this tip from someone. Basically you buy this:

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...t%5Fid=61-2667

And then jam the power button on the xbox so it's always on. You can use a toothpick or some foil. I was at work today and I couldn't wait till I got home so I cut a small square from a aluminum can, folded it, and used that to jam the power button on. Works great.

They aren't, haha. I started pretty good, but it's really hard to do precise drills without the right equipment, like a bench drill, haha. I had to drill holes so the fan could move the hot air out of the glove.

It comes with a bios but I had to reflash the bios with something more mod friendly. You'll also need a dashboard and other programs to run on your box. Do some research on www.xbox-scene.com , excellent resource. Bit of a learning curve but all worth it in the end.

The way mine is setup, I have to "tap" the power button to go into modded mode. If I press the power button for more than a second, it goes to unmodded mode. If I press for longer than 2 seconds, it goes to a BIOS screen. It must be the different chip version I'm running. Tx anyway.

That's the smartx chip or something right? Yea, I guess jamming the button wouldn't work for ya.

Pretty much, I'm power the xbox with a power inverter that I wired to the cig lighter. My wires were long enough to get from the glove to the screen but if you need longer, you can buy another set of wires and an extender at radio shack.

Well, if you're going to install it on the passenger side then the wires should definately be long enough. As for the power inverter, I bought mine at radio shack for $99

WOW!! 100 bucks seems a little high. Anywhere else I can get it for less like crutchfield, walmart or bestbuy?

Well, from the research I've been doing its one of those situations where you get what you pay for but I believe you can find one on crutchfield. I just picked up the one from radioshack because it's right next to my pad. A friend told me to get at least a 300-watt inverter.
