im running a 150watt inverter with built in noise filteration and everything is running fine so far. however, i dont have any LED's or other lights hooked up to my xbox so that might be why im not overloading the 150watt inverter. cost me around $80

man! i thought installing the xbox in the car was going to be hard but that was the easy part. i was just reading up on info to mod the xbox, this crap is complicated. sottering and installing is no prob, but all this programming stuff im no good at. im gonna read up some more.

Tell me about it man, that stuff is enough to make your brain hemorrage. It's a lot of reading. I went with the solderless chip, easier install but I don't think it was worth it in the long run. Mine kept coming loose. If you don't plan on going Xbox Live with it research the Softmod method as opposed to the chip method.

if the case is closed and its a modded xbox ie larger harddrive, you will need a fan. the larger harddrives usually spin at a faster rate and give off more heat combined with the heat from the xbox and the heat from the inverter. might be a good idea.

but if your keeping the xbox as is then just take the cover off of it and it should be enough.

no, it does not overheat. I've got the executor chip w/a 250GB drive and 75+ games on it. No problems at all, no fan either. If anyone wants to buy my modded xbox w/the HD and games, pm me an offer.

This thread is unrelated (it is actually about using the OEm Nav Screen to play xBox)but the guy does do a lot of xBox conversions. You may want to talk to him. I shared several PM's with him about converting an xBox a while back.

i gotta buddy that manages a computer store. im gonna get a killer price on a 300gig hard drive. to top it off, one of his employees mods xbox's on the side for $60. he throws in all the ps1, nes, super nes, sega and atari emulators on it no charge. save me a ton of time in doing it myself so im gonna go with this guy.

now i just gotta put together the cash to mod my xbox. i think the total was somewhere around 250 parts and labor. good thing i got the xbox free from my gf. lol.

Getting it done is all good, and no doubt it would save you alot of time and headache. I just like knowing whats going on that way if something goes wrong or if I want change something I can. For example, just recently my chip crapped out on me and I had to learn how to mod my box without the chip. I'm back in business now and all is good. Just make sure the guy installs all the apps you'll need on your box because you won't know how to install em.

Bare minimum:
1. DVD program so you can watch dvds w/o xbox dongle.
2. Game backup program, I use dvd2xbox.
3. Xbox Media Center to play vids, pics, and mp3s.

Im having trouble with my inverter. I get nothing but distorted audio as soon as i turn it on. What may be the cause of that?

thx for the tip cyberz350. ill b sure to mention it to him.

distortion is mainly cause by a bad ground or a power source the generates a lot of noise (ie cigarette lighter). try using a thicker ground wire and find a better location to ground to. that and the type of inverter you have will make a difference. some inverters generate more interference then others. you have a few options. either get an inverter with built in noise filteration, or go to your local radio shack and buy a 10amp power filter. $10-$15.
