Default New member... Will this sytem work

New member checking in.. I have a system I designed around my Q45, that I would like to use in the Z now

I think I may have to dump some parts and add others on. Any advice/help is appreciated.

System:

Nakamichi 6 1/2 Component Speakers with 1 inch tweeter
Nakamichi 6x9 speakers
Nakamichi 12" 450w RMS sub
Nakamichi PA-2002 2/1 channel (100 W x 2, four ohms) bridgeable amplifier
I was still an amp or two short along with a HU. I was going to use the kenwood double din screen (http://www.kenwoodusa.com/content/pr...-2004-kusa.jpg)

My questions:

I don't want bass overload, do you think a 12 inch sub would be too much given the openness of the Z? I know this is subjective, but I like many forms of music, and don't want the bass to overpower or negate the rest of the music.

Will 6 1/2 components with a 1 inch tweeter fit? I know some more drilling would be required for the tweeter, given the speaker hole looks less then an inch

Obviously 6x9s arnt going to work in the speaker grills behind the seats.. Will 6 1/2 speakers?

Finally, I'd like to retain the bose HU. This is because it has 6 disc capability and built in SAT controls. I figure if I power all the speakers/sub seperately the HU will only come into play in terms of SQ with cds.. I know its bose, but is is that bad If I was just using it to play the CDs?

Thanks for the info.

bose is a very complicated system, not sure if you can hook up an extrernal amp to the bose with much success especially for like speakers

A 12 inch sub will be fine given correct tuning. Remember that a 10 inch sub will fit in a Z cheaper and easier.

The 1 inch tweeter will fit perfectly behind the grill in the sail. You can either flush mount the tweeters or not. I dont have mine flush mounted as I dont like a harsh or even much tweeter other than what is necessary.

6.5s will fit. Why even have rear fill anyway?

You will lose sound quality in your line level converters..........argueably really making all your nice equipment sound like a few hundred dollars less than it should.

you should check out that new JL Audio product that is made for retaining the stock head unit and still getting quality sound. I can't remember the name right now but i'm sure you can find it on the JL website. with the 12 inch sub you are going to give up more trunk space than you would with a comparable 10 inch, but it will still work, and you can just tune the sub to not over power the mids and highs.

Clean sweep

thats just another over priced piece from JL, it does one thing that nothing else does that I do give JL credit for:

Fixing the proccessed signal some stock decks tend to shove out. I do no believe the blose system has this problem to correct so basically it is an advanced line level converter that costs a lot.

maybe im wrong

thanks for the info..

I'm going to pick up the 10 inch sub. Where do you guys recommend the box goes? I will be tracking the car whenever NASA meets are in AZ, so I need something secure. I know road racing with a system is backwards, but I don't have the funds to have a Z for only track racing

I saw these on ebay, I don't know about the quality of the boxes.. Are the locations decent?

So I'm thinking:

6 1/2 components up front with the tweeter in the stock location. So I can use the component speaker and tweeter in their OEM grill locations?

6 1/2 or 5 1/2 speakers in the back locations. Any preference there?

10 inch sub.

thanks again for all the help.

Yea, drop the Bose head-unit. Since you are going to rip everything else out. Buy a nice head unit with an LCD screen and hide a disc changer in one of the storage areas.

IMO, replace the headunit keep the components and amp, get new 10" sub plus mono amp for it.

mono amp http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=387&1=388&3=5

Head units:

Eclipse are nice http://www.eclipse-web.com/avx/index.html

Nakamichi HUs sound real good lacks features though
