Default Time To Finish Audio Upgrades - Help Please!

I'm itching to finish my audio (and maybe video). Originally I thouight I'd just add a new HU plus replace my rear speakers but after much consideration and due to so many options out there I am on audio overload! I'm a freak about sound quality and want the best possible sound. Here's what I'd like:

1. I want to stay with Pioneer if possible (see sig).
2. I want to fill the factory space (2 DIN's)
3. I want to add Sirius
4. I want to add a DVD player (1 DIN) and connect it to my existing monitor.
5. I want to play SACD & DVDA discs (Single disk from HU or changer) if possible cause it just sounds so much better than standard CD format.

For HU I'm looking at either the DEH-P8MP
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...829766,00.html or,
The DEH-P960MP
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...496605,00.html.

I know Pioneer makes DVD recievers (DVH-P5000MP & DVH-P7000MP). What I don't know is if these will work with my Nav LCD. I really don't care much for the way they look either. Also, Since I need to add a center channel speaker I would like to know if anyony makes a 1 DIN center channel that I could mount below the HU if I have to go with on of the above recievers. If not then I'll throw one of their EQ's in the 2nd DIN. I hear these are a waste of money but it will match the DVD reciever and also fill the space.

If a 1 DIN center speak doesn't exist, can I mount the center speaker behind my screen in the Nav compartment? There's lots of space back there but I'm not sure what that would do to sound quality.

I don't really care to go 5.1 Multi Channel if I can't play SACD/DVDA but I do still want DVD playback capability.

I know I don't need much for rear speakers but I do want to replace the Bose rears. I was thinking a good set of coaxals will do (BA RM6's?).

So, can anyone give me a good setup that will meet these requirements? After all my research I'm still uncertain if SACD/DVDA playback is even possible for car audio.

Thanks all!

Thanks. But that's not quite what I'm looking for. I don't want to mount anything on the dash. I will forget 5.1 if thats the only way to go for a center channel. Again all I care about for 5.1 capability is SACD/DVDA audio playback. I don't care if movies are in suround sound. I've already confirmed that placing a center behind my monitor will not produce good sound quality so a 1 DIN is my only option. It doesn't appear anyone makes it.

Not that this helps, but out of curiosity I would like to know which units can play DVD-A. I just found out yesterday that my Kenwood DDX-7015 will not play DVD-A....Verified by Kenwood

kenwood 915dvd it comes with a 5.1 and dts processor. Also you dont have to have a center channel, it will mix that channel into the 2 in the front.

Thumbs up

I think this is the way I'm going to go. Sorry for the poor PS.

I'm also going to add some Focal 165ca coaxials in the rear, Sirius Satelite and a new 2 channel amp. Per Big-Al (AudioMobile) my existing 300/4 will be used to power the new rears & existing Sub. The new 300/2 will be dedicated to the Focal's in front.

Thanks all!

If you really want dvd audio check out alpine F1 status, head unit plays dvd audio.

DVI-990 - head unit
TMI-M990 - Motorized In-dash monitor or your existing monitor
PXIH990 - Multimedia manager
MRV F900 - 4 channel amp

I have the 165k2p's components in the front. They sound amazing. Considering I am powering everything (front, rears & sub) with a 300/4 amp and still have the factory Bose HU I couldn't be more happy.

I'm sick of the Blose HU though and I know with the new setup it's going to sound much, much better . And trust me, the sound coming from the system now is more than enough for most people.

WOW! That's beautiful! I didn't see pricing. It says DVDA, do you know if it plays SACD's too? A lot of times if they play 1 they will the other but thats not always the case (at least in home audio). Considering I've already spent about $4,500.00 & it's going to be another $2,000.00 for the setup I just posted, I'm not certain I want to spend what I'm afraid that units going to cost to integrate. It is awesome looking though.

Thank, thanks a lot. I'm going to have to seriously consider this one.

Which of these 3 do you guys thing looks better, the pioneer or 1 of the 2 alpine? The single DIN setup is the DVI-9990. Keep in mind looks only, not performance. I'm having Big-Al check on the DVI-9990 for me. But I thought the 2 unit alpine setup would look pretty nice. It's the CDA-9851 & DVA-5210. I like all of them pretty well but am still undecided. I've even considered mixing the Pioneer HU with the Alpine DVD player.

Thanks!

F#1 is real expensive. The main unit is 3000.00. The processor is 3000.00 The fold out screen is about 1500.00, plus the amps and speakers. You would be looking at
10000.00 + to sound good. Get an alpine system the IVA-D310 or IVA-d901 with a center channel speaker--new one fits in DD location.

Do I need all that crap? I def don't need the screen. Why can't I just hook it up to my existing amps? All I want is a HU & DVD player to hook up to my existing system. I've already invested about $4,500.00 and am willing to spend 2 or 3 k more to finish it off.

Go for the Pioneer P-9 cd player and processor. (Premier) and the Premier fold out screen dvd player. You will need to add an amp. The P-9 is very awesome if you are familiar with the Premier ODR line about 4 years ago, this is the replacement. Alpine's F#1 came out two years ago to compete with this. This would be a nice compliment to your system since you already have a Pioneer system. Premier rocks! ---High end too!

I do not want to add another screen. I want to integrate with what I already have. I've looked at the premier line and compared it to the "standard" line. There is no difference in specifications so what makes it premier? The HU I posted in the Pioneer pic WAS only available in Premier when I firs saw it. Now it's available in their standard line as well & is $200.00 cheaper from when I saw it 4 months ago. The same goes with most of their other Premier HU's as well. They just take the word "Premier" of the face, give it a slightly different model number and put it in their standard line.

So what's the difference?

Don't get me wrong. I love Pioneer and do prefer to stay with them but I want it to look good too. Which is why I'm asking opinions. I like all 3 setups. I've always thought Alpine made really nice looking units that also perform well.

Thanks for the help!

David

For the price of a dvd player, you can get the screen with it and use it as a slave unit with the p9. Check out www.onlinecatstereo.com they have the best prices and are reputable!

This is what randy is talking about
http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=430&1=431&3=909

plus the DEX P9 Digital Signal Processor

http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?0=430&1=432&3=541

Difference from the regular pioneer and the premier is the warranty. Premier gets
2 years warranty the other 1 year only. P9 comes only in the premier line, they
are used in iasca and other related competitions. My friend has one in his subaru
right now. It will not play dvd audio or sacd though.

The japanese version is called carrozzeria. You can check them out here.

Whew! I think I FINALLY made up my mind. I'm going with the Pioneer DVH-P7000. http://www.pioneerusa.com/pna/produc...etailComponent

I'm giving up on trying to fill 2 DIN's. This unit does everything I want (except the DVDA/SACD playback). I just couldn't get a Pioneer combo I liked esthetically. The Alpine combo looks awesome but will not integrate very well with my existing Pioneer Nav (muting, etc.).

I think this looks pretty good!
