Too much power for stock alternator?
I'm installing the following:
330x2 amp for subwoofer
70x4 amp (bridged) for front speekers
26x4 headuint (not-brideged) for rear speakers
Total system power will be 1044 watts. This will require ~75 amps total current.
Anybody have problems running of the stock alternator? I think it's rated at 110 amps.
Crutchfield assumes 0.4 x110 amps = 44 amps available. Then they suggest dividing this by 2 for a safe load so that's only 22 amps.
What's the best thing to do?

You should be fine...
I have a Zeus 1000D which is 1000 wattsx1 RMS @ 1 ohm (class D though) and a Zeus 6400 85wattsx4 RMS @ 4 ohms or 175x2@4 ohms (which is how I have it). Total of 1350 watts RMS, and I have *Barely* any dimming... and that I contribute to not having upgraded the big 3. I do have a 1fd cap though.

hmmm, you're making me rethink the cap. I've already bolted it into my car but I haven't powered it up yet. What damage can it do to the power system?

not like physically screw things up.
More like, once the cap is spent, the alternator has to now charge the cap and power the amps...not to mention the rest of the car: gauges and other unimportant things like spark plugs.
Basically its just one more thing for the charging system to stress over.

just wonder..
how much will a bigger or better alternator cost for our car???
also why do they even make cap when it is not so good for the system?
and i do see many ppl have it in their car too!
not try to make an argument here
i am in the position of buyin a cap too..wanna make sure if i should buy it or not!
thanks for the help!

It kinda makes since, because a capacitor stores power when demanded, which delivers power when needed. Maybe power that your amp might need to run the stereo when turned up.

I don't think he disagrees with you in principle. But I think he was a bit confused about your suggestion because we were already discussing the usefulness of capacitors ( caps).
